It was obvious the sleepover was a mistake. Both men were now very awkward around each other, and would barely talk. That is, until one night.Squidward let out a loud groan, covering his ears with his pillow. The loud storm raged on outside like a Karen who got three pickles on her burger instead of four. In fact, it worked so well that he almost didn't hear the knocking at his front door. The bluenette tried to ignore it, but it kept on going. He huffed, finally getting out of his bed and walking downstairs.
Opening the door, he was prepared to rant, but instead he saw Spongebob, wrapped in a blanket and trembling.
"C-can I please.... come i-inside....." he begged. Squidward just couldn't say no, as the ginger looked so....fragile.
"Fine, just try not to track water everywhere," Squidward agreed. Spongebob managed to walk a few steps before a clap of thunder sounded and he automatically launched himself into Squidward's arms, shivering extremely hard. From the cold, or the fear, or both, we'll never know. One thing we do know is that he needed help, fast.
Squidward grabbed two towels; one he placed on the seat of the couch, and the other he could wrap around the ginger. Spongebob clutched the towel like it was his life.
"Hey, Spongebob? Do you want to tell me what's going on?" Squidward tentatively asked.
"Th-thunder....a-and lighting...." was all Spongebob could say. The taller male immediately felt sorry for his companion, and Squidward made a decision. One he'll say he regretted if you ask him, but deep down inside he was glad he finally did it.
He hugged Spongebob.
The shorter boy was just as shocked as Squidward was, but he almost immediately responded, leaning into the other male and basking in his warmth. Squidward found himself stroking Spongebob's brownish-orange hair and....smiling? Yeah. He was smiling. And he sure was glad Spongebob couldn't see.
After about 40 seconds, Squidward heard soft snores coming from the ginger. He chuckled, laying the shorter male down and placing a warm blanket over him. This is when he made a second impulsive decision, one that didn't really affect Spongebob, but it sure did affect Squidward.
The bluenette leaned forward, planting a kiss on Spongebob's forehead. Smiling, he walked upstairs, climbing into his own bed and drifting off into sleep.
