hate school.

Mia gripped onto the straps of her backpack tighter. She stomped her way into the local neighbourhood library as she thought about the piles and piles of homework that was sitting on her desk at home. Not to mention the stack of worksheets that she had shoved in her backpack before leaving the house this morning.

It was Saturday and also the first day of her semester break. Mia was not happy at all though. The thought about what had happened in school the previous day got her fired up even more.

All of her subject teachers decided that it would be the best time to give more homework for their students to complete over the break. They claimed that it was going to "help" them prepare for their finals. Ms Lee was the worst one of all. She gave us 4 sets of worksheets to do with about 20 pages worth of problems each.

Finals was the only thing any senior was thinking about including Mia. They were only allowed to graduate if they did well. Mia had always wanted to go to college. She wanted to make her parents proud. And honestly, she did not know if she would able to live with herself if she failed.

Mia's eyebrows were furrowed. Anyone that made any eye contact with her could practically see the fire in her eyes as she searched for a place to sit and do her homework.

The library was spacious. The modern piece of architecture had floor-to-ceiling windows. The walls were painted pure white. You could barely see any signs of dirt on them. The wooden shelves and tables were light brown, similar to maple wood and the floor was covered in shiny, marble tiles. There was a faint smell of apple-scented detergent and pages of books in the air. All you could hear were the sounds of people walking, people typing on their keyboards or flipping pages. The library was surprisingly quiet even though it was crowded.

Mia spotted an empty table in the far corner of the library. Her mood was slightly lifted seeing how quickly she was able to find an empty and quiet space. The other tables surrounding it was completely full. She made a beeline for that table. It was big enough to fit about 4 people. She sat on one of the chairs and put her bag on the side of the table. She took out her pencil case and her worksheets that she was planning to do.

Okay, literature and math. Let's try our best Mia.

With a nod of determination and a sip of coffee, she whipped out her pen and started on her literature essay.

Mia was about an hour into her study session when she finally finished her literature essay. She looked at her essay with a small smile. Literature was her favourite subject next to English and she took a lot of pride in her essays.

She closed her eyes and stretched in her seat. Mia kept all her literature books and papers and took out her math worksheet. She was planning to do at least one of the worksheets today. At least she hoped. Math was her weakest subject and Ms Lee was certainly unhappy with her grades.
