Chapter 17: Memories

Emily's POV

Jinxx insisted that I accompany Andy and Ashley to the mall to help pick out presents for Andy's parents. I gave Jinxx a confused look before nodding and leaving with Andy. Andy and Ashley were smiling more than usual.

When we reached the mall, I dragged Andy into Hot Topic so that I could buy a few presents of my own. Andy chuckled as I placed all my items on the counter. I looked up at him with a glare.

"What's so funny," I asked. He looked down at me and laughed.

"You feel the need to yank me into a store to buy things when I've already told you to tell then to put it on my card," he chuckled. I smiled softly and hugged his skinny waist.

"I forgot, chicken legs," I joked. He looked at me with a sassy expression.

"These are gazelle legs," he yelled triumphantly before placing me on his back and running down the hallway as Ashley chased us, yelling for us to slow down. I couldn't stop laughing and Andy almost fell over from laughing too hard.

When Ashley caught up to us, he bent fown and rested against his knee before looking up at us and flipping us his lucky finger. I smiled at him and placed my hand on his shoulder.

"Nice finger Ashley," I giggled. He laughed and pulled me into a hug, making me shriek as he lifted me up and placed me on his back as he ran from Andy.

Andy's POV

Ashley and I brought Emily to the mall with us so Jinxx could set up his romantic gesture. It was a flawless plan that would leave Emily crying in Jinxx's arms.

As I chased Ashley, I noticed Emily's cell phone slipping out of her pocket. It seemed to be ringing as well.

"EMILY!" I screamed. She whipped her head around and noticed me pointing towards her cell phone. She quickley grabbed it and answered.

Ashley stopped and slowly slid Emily off his back as I caught up to them. I laughed as I placed my hand on his back.

Emily seemed upset as she spoke on the phone. Her facial expression read anguish and dispair. As she hung up the phone, I noticed tears rolling down her face. Ashley and I quickley ran over to her and wrapped her in a hug as she cried.

"What happened," Ashley asked her. Emily sobbed into his chest as she weakly whispered, "My grandmother is dead..." We hugged her for almost two hours straight before we had to head back to the house.

I texted Jinxx and told him to wait a while before asking her because of what had happened. He said ok, making me smile slightly.

As we pulled into the driveway, Emily bolted out of the car and into the house. Ashley and I made our way into the house and I chuckled when I saw Emily wrapped in Jinxx's arms.

Jinxx held her close and kissed her head as she sobbed into his chest.

"It's ok," Jinxx soothed. Emily cried harder into his chest and clung to him. Jinx sighed and held her tighter.

Later that night, Emily fell asleep on Jinxx's chest while watching Batman with CC and me. Jinxx looked up at me and smiled.

"I'm going to take her upstairs," he chuckled. I nodded then turned my attention back to the tv. As Jinxx took Emily upstairs, CC looked at me and chuckled. I glanced at him in confusion. "What's so funny?"

CC shook his head and smiled at me. "Nothing. You just seem to act more fatherly over Jinxx's girlfriend," he chuckled. I glanced away the took a deep breath.

"I have my reasons, Coma," I mumbled. CC chuckled louder.

"Do you like her?" CC joked. I turned toward him and growled.

"No," I answered sturnly. "I'm just protective. She reminds me of Mia." CC frowned then looked away. CC and I never talked about Mia. It brought a tear to our eyes.

"I'm sorry..." he sighed. Jinxx walked down the stairs and stood in front of me.

"Who is Mia?" he questioned. I sighed. I stood up and walked into the kitchen.

"Mia was a girl I adopted when I was eighteen," I began. "I loved that little girl. But when I met Scout, Mia began to act strange. She started to wear more long sleeves and she was more skittish when others visited. That's when I pulled her aside and asked her to tell me what was wrong." I stopped in slience, choking back my tears. "She pulled up her sleeves to show scars along her wrists. She claimed that Scout had beaten her. I did what I had to in order to protect Mia. I broke up with Scout. But about three months later, Mia went missing.. And I haven't been able to find her.." My tears slowly slid down my face as CC wrapped me in a hug.

Jinxx stared at me and sighed. "We'll find her.." he said in a whisper.
