"I hate it here". Those are the only words I've written down in my notebook in the last 30 minutes.
It's the last period of the last day of school before spring break, and at this point I don't really care anymore. It isn't even senioritis that's getting to me, I'm just tired of being forced to be in a place where I don't belong.
Ever since I was young, I was always a little bit weird. Back then a lot of people called me a nerd because I watch anime, and used to tease me for my looks and my lack of ability to make friends. All I ever wished for back then was to be a popular pretty girl that guys couldn't resist, and now that I am pretty, popular, and have a nice body, I still don't feel like I fit in.
You'd think that someone who's well known and "loved" in highschool would be thankful, but the "love" I receive is really nothing but lust. I can't have any male friends without them falling for me, and most of the females who I was friends with ended up snaking me or using me to their benefit.
Aside from school life, my parents treat me more like a trophy than their child. I'm always the topic of conversation whenever they speak to their friends, and anytime I fall short of perfection they verbally abuse me. I would try to talk to my little sister about it, but she's not very verbal and I'd rather not put the weight of my problems on her shoulders.
Before I could continue complaining to myself, my thoughts were interrupted by a cold hand touching my shoulder.
"Lynn, you know the bell rang like 3 minutes ago right?"
I turned around and was greeted by the face of my one and only true friend, Allan. He's always been a very interesting person to be around. Though he talks to me, he's pretty quiet around others, and after 4 years of knowing him, I can still never tell what he's thinking.
"Really? I didn't even notice the bell rang!" I replied as I picked up my backpack and began to walk with him down the halls.
The walk to his car was a silent one. If there's one thing I love about Allan, it's definitely the fact that we can be around each other without saying anything, and just enjoy each other's company.
"So Allan, we're finally on spring break, do you got any plans? Or are you just going to go out and link up with girls?" I asked teasingly.
He turned and looked at me in confusion. "What girls? You know I'm not messing with anyone at all right now".
"Uhuh, you know I saw those girls watching us while we were walking down the halls, they looked like they were checking you out!"
"I'm sure they were looking at you Adelynn, you know your booty turns people fruity", He replied while laughing.
"Quit playing with me, you know that they're into you. Who wouldn't be? You're a lil' brown skin cutie with curly hair. Plus you got those glasses, you knoooow nerdy boys are winning right now!... Buuut anyway, have you heard of Kanjori?"
"Yeah I have, it just came out earlier today. What about it?"
"Well I wanted to know if maybe you and me can play it together."
He opened his mouth, but then he paused and looked at me. "You want to play that game? I could've sworn that the entire game has only Japanese text in it. Plus, since when did you get into gaming?", He responded.
"Well the game has been localized, so english speaking people can play it, but before I tell you the reason why I want to play it, you promise you won't laugh?"
"Promise.", He said while linking his pinky with mine.
"Well... I've already told you about how I always feel like I don't belong here, and honestly diving into a whole different world and starting fresh might be just what I need. I just feel like I need an escape from this world we live in right now so I can truly feel alive... I know it sounds weirdddd, but yeah, that's why."
He stared into my eyes and pointed at the back seats. "I had a feeling you'd think that way, so I went ahead and bought us 2 copies of the game."
I looked in the back and sure enough, both copies were there. We ended up arriving at my house right after that, so I thanked him, and as soon as he drove off I went inside.
My parents didn't even acknowledge my arrival, but to be honest it's fine with me, because I couldn't wait to finally get to play the game, and potentially get what I've always wanted all my life.
I lied down in my bed and hooked up my VR headset. This was really about to happen. I was finally going to get a chance to start fresh again. A world where nobody knows who I am, and I know who nobody is. My heart was beating fast with excitement. I closed my eyes, and with one deep breath, the dive began.
When I opened my eyes I was greeted by a white screen with black text that said, "Welcome To Another World. The World Of Kanjori".
