This world looked like one you would only hear of in a story. The water in the rivers and ponds were crystal clear and glistened in the sunlight. The grass was green without a single patch being dry. The sky was clear and blue, without a single hint of pollution. This place is beautiful.
I looked over to my left to see a pale boy with purple eyes also looking around the area in astonishment. His hair was curly and charcoal black with dark purple tips.
"Allan? Is that you?", I asked in disbelief.
The boy turned around slowly and looked confused. His eyes darted up and down my body, then he leaned in closer. "Lynn?", he replied slowly.
In curiosity, I looked down at my hand and realized my skin too, had turned pale. My eyes met his once again and he laughed.
"It seems our avatars are like this because this is a Japanese game, and japan is pretty homogeneous." He said while smiling.
"Well how do I look?"
"Well it looks like our avatars are random, because you don't look how you do in person at all. Your hair is long and black with blue tips, and your eyes are a pretty dark shade of blue as well. It seems like you're still built the same way as you are in real life though because you don't look half bad at all."
I started to smile after noticing his little compliment and looked over my shoulder. The feelings of happiness and embarrassment went away quickly as I realized we were in danger. 3 large boars had their eyes on us, and seemed as if they had a plan to kill us for being in their territory.
Allan didn't look back, but it seems he realized we were in danger as well. He opened his eyes and started to lean forward. "RUN!!!", he exclaimed as he took off.
I started to sprint too, and it seems like the boars weren't content with us leaving them alone because after we started to run, I could hear their thunderous footsteps trailing after us.
Though the two of us both do track in real life, it seems like the real athletes were the boars. With each second the distance between us and them grew shorter and shorter, and we grew more and more tired.
Then out of nowhere, Allan pulled me into his arms and a boar rammed into him. I looked down at his leg and one of the boar's tusks were lodged into his leg. He grunted in pain while staring intensely at the 3 boars. The low growling coming from the animals and the scent of fresh blood began to make me nauseous.
The pure bloodlust coming from the boars was nothing less than overwhelming. As they slowly continued to trot towards us, I noticed Alain's grip on me slowly became tighter. Out of nowhere Allan jumped backwards with me in his arms, not knowing that there was no ground underneath him to land on.
"Allan are you okay?!!", I screamed as we fell.
He winced in pain and looked at me. "Yeah, I didn't expect a game to feel so real thou-" his words were cut short by the impact of his body on the ground. We had began to roll down a hill.
Despite all the pain he had just endured, his grip on me never loosened. Our slow descent down the hill was painful, but oddly enough, the bumpy rotating pattern we fell in let me view this world in a way I never would have.
Before I was able to get lost in a hypnotic state, we crashed into a bunch of boxes.
"My my, it seems as if you two got carried away with having fun!", A man exclaimed.
He reached down and offered me a help to get off of Alain, I obliged of course but I had no clue he'd pull me up with such force.
As soon as I got off Allan I realized how bad the situation was. His body was all bruised up and he had a boar tusk stuck in his leg. Surprisingly, he was able to stand up on his own even after all that.
"Miss Rin, your friend Damian over there must not be normal. A low leveled player normally wouldn't even be conscious right now, yet somehow your friend is!" the old man said.
He looked at both Allan and I's faces and saw the visible confusion. "Ah you two probably didn't realize, but this game gives you randomly selected names the same way it does with your avatars! You, young lady, are named Rin, and your friend over there is Damian" he explained as we entered what looked like a lodge.
After we all sat down on 3 beds, some ladies came over and immediately started tending to our wounds without saying a word to us.
"My name is Mr. Gregorio, and I am the Non Player Character or NPC that will be giving you your quests and missions. A lot of the people you see around here are also NPCs, and go on with their days as if this is reality. Some of us have been coded to feel emotion, such as myself, but you'll come to find that a lot of the NPCs you run into will behave rather robotically." the man said while drinking tea.
"So, what do we actually do in this game?" Allan asked while leaning forward. It seems as if the game had begun to peak his interest.
"The main purpose of this game is to level up and get stronger and beat bosses until you reach the final boss. The friendships you build will most definitely be crucial to your success in this game. Some people are planning to go the solo route, but I doubt they'll be able to make it very far."
Instinctively, Allan and I both looked at each other and smiled. We've always been suckers for a good challenge.
"It seems you two are excited, make sure to rest up well, once you guys recover we'll get you started!" Mr. Gregorio said while grinning warmly at the two of us.
