26. The Croquet Game

"Maddie, I don't even know if I can play croquet with this thing on!" I shouted moving my cast.

"Sure you can! It will be easy as tea!" Maddie said.

"Even without it I'm horrible. I always lost at school."

"Because you were playing against Lizzie. And you're only bad at it because you think you're bad at it."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, when you where playing against Lizzie, you were trying the Ever After way. You always do it the Wonderland way, except when you play with Lizzie."

"So you're saying I've been playing the Wonderland way all along?"

"Yes indeedly-do!" Maddie said hoping away.

"Scarlett?" A male voice said to me.

"Hyatt?" I said realizing who it was.

"I didn't know you were going to be here, long time, no see." Hyatt said.

"Since 4th grade."

"Right. Why are you here?"

"Is it bad that I'm here?"

"No, no, no, just wondering what happened to one of my best friends."

"Oh, I'm here because some of my friends are from Wonderland. Wow, I know a lot of people from Wonderland."

"Really, who?" Hyatt said.

"Off with your head!" I heard Lizzie scream from far off.

"Kitty Cheshire, Madeline Hatter, and-" I said just before Lizzie cut me off.

"Scarlett!" Lizzie shouted.

"Lizzie Hearts, daughter of the Queen Of Hearts," Hyatt stated. "how do you know her?"

"We have some fairly important classes together, shes my distant cousin, and you are?" Lizzie said, wait, I'm related to Lizzie?

"Hyatt Caterpillar son of the Caterpillar." Hyatt said.

"Really? Don't speak in rhyme I see."

"No, that's one trait that didn't pass down the roots."

"Well, YOU SHALL ALWAYS SPEAK IN RHYME FOR THE QUEEN."

"Uh, how doth the little crocodile, improve his shining tale, and pour waters of the Nile on every single scale..." Hyatt said. I could tell he forgot the rest, and he's the one who told me that.

I found a piece of paper on a booth. I wrote down the rest.

How cheerfully he seems to grin, how neatly he spreads his claws, and welcomes little fishes in with gently smiling jaws

I held it up in the air, he recited the rest. "Thank you." Lizzie said as Kitty appeared next to her.

"The game is about to start! Come on!" Kitty said disappearing.

We walked over to the stand that Maddie was standing at. "Thank Wonderland you guys are here." She said sipping a cup of tea. Little did she know Earl Grey was sitting inside of it.

"Scarlett! Quickly! Angle it just right." Kitty said. I was at the perfect shot, the only person who could beat us were the opposition team. Which was some of the minor characters kids. But Alistair was on that team.

Just as I hit the ball with the flamingo, everyone disappeared. Except for Maddie, Kitty, Lizzie, April, Hyatt, and me.

"What?" Maddie said. "Where's Dad?" A blue light came from the corner. Kitty started walking towards it.
