Chapter 16

"Man, I still can't believe how good your cooking is now Serena." Ash complimented as he patted his stomach. For such a small meal it definitely hit the spot.

Serena brushed a few of her curly blonde locks from in front of her face. "I'm offended Ash, I thought you said my cooking was always good." She stated as she got closer to Ash having caught him in his lie.

Ash gave a nervous chuckle.

"See Serena, he is just as bad as me." Gary chimed in as he licked a few of his fingers, also having enjoyed the meal.

"Well at least Ash was willing to eat my food even if he thought it was going to be bad, unlike some people!" Serena stated as she turned her attention towards Gary.

Ash let out a breath of relief before chuckling as he watched Gary try to justify why he wasn't going to eat her food at first. It was really amazing at how much Serena had changed once Ash thought about it. Back when they were younger she had much longer hair, but now she had cut it to the point where it barely reached her chin. Her hair wasn't the only thing that had changed either, although Ash didn't want to he couldn't help, but take notice of the curves that the girl had developed over the years, usually he wasn't the type to take notice of such things, especially now that he was dating May, but the small pink dress that stopped well above her knees made it pretty hard to ignore.

On top of the pink dress she wore a red sleeveless overcoat that matched the red fedora she wore on her head. Suddenly Ash took notice of something that had managed to elude him since he had arrived.

"Hey Serena...That ribbon that you have on your shirt..." Ash suddenly voiced his thoughts bringing both Gary's and Serena's attention to him

The short haired girl's eyes instantly went towards the collar of her dress to look at the blue ribbon. "Oh so you noticed!"

Gary seemed to be a bit confused as to why Ash would randomly point out her ribbon, but he didn't say anything instead opting to wait to see where the conversation led.

"That can't be the same ribbon..There is no way you still have that old thing." Ash continued further confusing Gary.

A large grin came to Serena's face as she nodded. "Of course it is! This was the first present you ever gave me, there is no way I'd lose it."

Suddenly Gary's eyes widened as the memory came to him. The memory of Serena's tenth birthday.

"Wow Serena...I can't believe you've kept that this entire time...And it looks like it's in perfect condition too." Ash muttered still a bit shocked. He couldn't even remember what he had received for his birthday a year ago let alone still have a gift from when he was ten.

Serena nodded as her hands went up to play with the ribbon. "Yeah..I don't wear it often, only for special occasions."

"This is a special occasion?" Ash questioned.

Ash didn't notice the blush that came to Serena's cheeks, but Gary did and his eyes briefly narrowed and an eyebrow raised.

Gary's mind was reeling. Girls don't just keep presents from friends for years. Not unless the person that gave them the present was extremely important to them. The brown haired boy's eyes went to Ash as Serena explained how the special occasion was the three of them hanging out again.
