"THE KANTO DRAGONS!" The announcer's voice bellowed throughout the arena.
Everybody in the crowd were on their feet, many jumping up and down unable to believe the buzzer beater shot that Ash had just made. Confetti was raining down from the ceiling showering the occupants of the building in rainbow colored paper. TV crews were rushing onto the floor to conduct interviews, photographers were snapping as many pictures as they possibly could of Ash who had run over to May and picked her up and carried her onto the floor much to her enjoyment.
But Gary stood on the court frozen. He couldn't believe it. He had lost. He ignored the confetti that rained down on his body, he ignored all of the cheers, he even ignored the fact that his best friend had just won his first NBA championship. It was hard to be excited for Ash when in the process he had missed his chance.
Gary felt a small tug on his arm snapping out of his thoughts. As his eyes went down they were immediately met with the blue hair of his girlfriend. She instantly brought him down for a hug and attempted to move him from his spot on the court. She didn't want the media to get to many pictures of him crying. She wasn't even sure he was aware of the fact that tears had made their way down his cheeks. Gary never cried, she could only assume that it was because this was as much his dream as it was Ash's.
Dawn gave a fleeting look towards May and Ash who were still celebrating in the middle of the court. The rest of their friends were clapping from their court side seats, although Dawn saw Serena give a glance towards them out of concern for Gary, but Dawn mouthed that she would take care of him. Serena didn't look like she would accept that, but Dawn's eyes told her that it was fine. With that Dawn and Gary made their way towards the visitor's locker room.
Ash felt like he was on top of the world. His teammates were currently surrounding him and May and he was sure that they would have tackled him onto the floor if the girl hadn't been present. During the course of his celebration he had brought May in for about ten kisses which he was sure were well documented by the media who were doing their best to pull him to the side.
"I'm so proud of you!" May screamed as the huddle of people around them cleared up a bit.
Ash gave his signature toothy grin. Before going in for his 11th kiss, which May had no problems with. It was chaste and when Ash broke it he looked deeply into his girlfriend's eyes for a few seconds. "Wow, even winning a NBA championship on a buzzer beater doesn't compare to a kiss from the love of my life."
May instantly caught the reference. It was similar to the statement Ash had said back when they were in high school. A large smile came to May's face. "You are to much!" She laughed despite the strong feelings the words had budded within her.
They had both come so far. They shared a moment like this on the high school stage and to now share it on the world stage was amazing. Words couldn't describe how proud she was of her boyfriend at the moment.
It wasn't long before Serena made her way to the couple and the blonde instantly brought the basketball player into a hug. May laughed at the shocked expression that came to Ash's face since he hadn't expected it.
"Ash! I can't believe it!" Serena shouted, as she squeezed her childhood friend as tightly as she could.
Ash chuckled as he finally realized who was hugging him. "Why not? Didn't I always say I was going to make it here." He replied simply which only served to cause Serena to tighten her grip around the boy.
