When he walked into the room it almost seemed as if he was a different person. He was happier and more positive. It was almost as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulder. I had never seen this particular side of him before. He sat down on the side of the bed, turning slightly to look at me.

"Hey, how'd it go?" I asked.

"Really good, actually. She wants to go back to Japan, and I'm not sure how I'm going to pull it off. But it has to happen. We both need this trip." He leaned forward, putting his head in his hands. "I owe it to her after all these years..."

"Don't you have the inheritance money? Why don't you use that to fund the trip?" I suggested.

"Yeah, I do, but it would be a pain in the ass to convince Sheerly to let us use enough of it to go on the trip because it's for living expenses only. Plus, planning the trip would be super complicated. I'd have to get in contact with people whom I haven't seen since I was seven years old. It's just a mess. What do you think I should do?" He sighed, still hunched over with his head in his hands. I was lost for words. Usually I could muster up some sort of advice, but at that moment I had nothing. He sat up and gave me a sort of 'say something please.' look.

"Ah. I don't know either. I didn't realize that it actually would take that much work. I wasn't thinking. I mean I could cover this months rent, and it wouldn't hurt you to use one paycheck for this."

"I know it wouldn't, but I'd never make enough to pay for an entire trip for two. It's just a difficult situation." He sighed, lying back and putting his arms under his neck. "It's something I have to work out with my family." We sat there in silence for a while before he sat back up, brushing his unruly hair back.

"I don't know. I'll figure it out though. I always do..."
