I open my eyes, confused at why I can't feel the pelting rain on my face anymore. There is an umbrella hovering over me.

"Need a ride?" I turn only to come in contact with a warm chest. My body immediately tenses.

"I-I" I'm trying to form a coherent word and focus on what he asked, rather than the scent of strawberries wafting through my nostrils.

I hope he didn't hear me stutter over the sound of the rain but something told me that he probably did.

"If you want to walk, don't let me stop you." Although from the smile on his face, I can tell he's kidding.

And before you become more confused than I am right now, let me start from the beginning.

*~*~*~*~*

This Morning

"I still can't believe he said all that!" Mya slams her locker door shut so hard, it's a surprise it didn't come off its hinges.

"It's been a week, Mya, and he hasn't tried anything else. Except a few lingering stares and blocking her in the hallway yesterday. Leave it be." Avery groans, but that only seems to fuel Mya's rage.

"That doesn't mean he won't! And if Melanie finds out..." Monse shudders as she stomps over to my locker.

"Oh please, she hasn't even showed up since they broke up. And she no longer has a say in what he does." Avery leans on the locker beside mine.

"And what of when she comes back?" Monse is pacing the almost empty hallway as I turn the combination for my locker. There is a click and the door opens.

"There's no need to make a big deal about this. What would you have her do?" Avery retorts as I place books for the next class of the day inside my bag.

"Here's what I'd like." I look up as my locker door slams shut to reveal the she-devil and her minions. 'Speak of the devil and she shall appear' My subconscious hails.

They're all wearing the same thing. Plaid ribbed crop top, mini skirt and faux suede ankle boots. "For you to keep your slimy paws off my boyfriend. He's off limits." Melanie glares at me.

"I thought you guys aren't together anymore, so..." Her jaw clenches but I hold her eyes. No way am I letting her think I'm fazed. "Technically, he's not." I finish.

"I'll say this in plain English so even you can understand" Her voice is harsh. "Stay away from Nex, or I'm gonna make you very sorry."

I feel like laughing in her face. She doesn't spook me. I turn my attention away from her and reach for my locker door. She bangs her hand on the door, the sound echoing through the hallway.

I sigh before turning back to her. "You have nothing to worry about so far as Nex is concerned, I have no interest in him. I'd like nothing more than for him to leave me alone."

"Is that so? It's so obvious you're lying." One of the brunette twins scowls. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you like him." She looks at me like I'm a plague.

"Well do you?" I ask, tilting my head sideways.

"Do I what?" Her heavily glossed dark red lips tips downwards.

"Know better." I smirk as her face turns red with rage. One point for me. Zero for Bitch Squad. "And really, this is none of your concern."

"It is if I say so." Melanie seems to have found her voice. "Look here twerp." 'Oh she did not.' My subconscious growls. Lemme at her. Lemme at her! "Get this through your thick skull. Nex is just playing with you, using you to make me jealous." It seems like she's trying to convince herself, not me. But she sounds so sure I almost gag.
