So I am a little late.My heart jumps every time my eyes glance up at the digital clock, ticking, laughing at me for being such an idiot.
I always, always remember to set an alarm before going to bed. But last night, when I dozed off to the droning sound of the television in front of me, I hadn't been thinking about preparing for the next day. I was just happy that day was coming to a close.
Sadly I am no longer on that day.
As Enzo drives to the front of school, he has barely parked when I jump out of the car, wave bye while swinging my backpack on before I slam the door closed and run.
Unsurprisingly, I don't make it very far before another roadblock hit me, except this time, it is in the form of a human being.
"Excuse me," I mutter without looking up. A frown is etched onto my face as I try to walk past whoever it is before they move in the same direction I did, and suddenly I snap my gaze up.
"Seriously? Look, I've had a really bad morning, so if you could just move--"
"Whoa. Calm down baby girl," Nex chortles and for a second, all I can do is stare. Of course, Of course I would run into Nex in my state of panic, and he will still have that cocky grin on his lips, completely oblivious to the chaotic situation I'm in the midst of dealing with.
He pushes open the door in front of me, waiting for me to enter. With a small sigh, I walk past him before he is next to me, his body towering over mine like he'd a giant.
"So," his deep voice speaks, slicing through the tension between us like a knife. "Why is a girl like you late for school?"
"My alarm," I answer quickly, but when he raises his eyebrows and prompts for more, I open my mouth again. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I had to be a bad boy to be late for school."
"So I'm a bad boy?" He asks, mischief lacing his tone.
It is almost hard not to laugh at the way the words sound with his rich voice.
Bad boy.
Of course he is considered a bad boy; he is a creation, a mixture of all the high school cliches rolling up into one perfect-looking, confidence-radiating boy.
"Isn't that your reputation?" I answer, and when he continues to look at me, I snort. "Are you serious? I haven't been in this school up to a month, but I probably know more about you, than I do about anyone else who goes here. You're sarcastic, annoying, outgoing, love sports, and you throw some mean parties." When he gives me a strange look, I add in a hurry "Or so I've heard."
"So you listen when people talk about me. Why don't you talk to me yourself? Wouldn't that be more fun, baby girl?" He asks, a taunting smile placed on his lips. "I think it'd be more fun."
I give a short fake laugh "I think we talk enough already. Besides, you're either constantly surrounded or you're missing. You make talking to you seem easier than it is."
We turn the corner leading to the Chancellor's office and meet Chancellor Tarron there.
She sweeps her gaze over us, before completely ignoring Nex as if him being late is a usual occurence and slightly shakes her head at me disapprovingly.
She holds up two pink slips and as something keeps tugging in my mind that Nex isn't comfortable with her unamused glare, I try to quicken the pace, even going as far as snatching the passes from her.
"That excited for class?" He chuckles when I push my hands flat against his back. The only fabric separating my skin from his is a thin grey T-shirt, and with a sudden jolt, I realize how muscular he really is. I don't answer, but take off my hands clumsily when I feel him tense under my touch.
