“How Gracie? How can you not know you’re two months pregnant?” Carson said.
“Um…I’m not exactly showing!” I snapped back.
He finally woke up after a minute. He was just so shocked and overwhelmed. It was kind of interesting to see his real reaction to the news.
“What about missing your period or something?”
“I’m so tiny I sometimes miss a period over a month. It’s not uncommon!”
He sighed and rubbed his eyes. “Alright…let’s see, what can we do?”
“Listen, you’re going to college. I’ll take care of myself.”
“Gracie, you’re going to college too!”
“Carson, you and I both know I’m not cut out for that. I applied somewhere else.”
He looked shocked. “Where?”
“A beauty college. It’s really close to your school though.” I said shrugging.
“When were you planning on telling me this?”
“I was afraid, because I didn’t want you to be mad at me and we had other things to think about.”
“Gracie…I…” He sighed again. “I’m not mad. I can’t get mad at you, and I can’t force you to go to college. It’s your life.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re really good with hair and makeup. I’m sure you can do well.”
I smiled. “Thank you!”
“But what about you being pregnant? You’ll be five months pregnant by the time school starts.”
“Well, I’ll go as long as possible, then I’ll do home classes or just finish after I’ve had the baby.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be like this.” Carson said. He was visibly upset.
I was sitting on one of those hospital beds they have in check up rooms. You know the ones with the paper that crunches with every move.
He was standing right in front of me when I reached out and pulled him into a hug.
He wrapped his arms around me tightly. “I’m sorry Gracie.”
“Carson, don’t be. It’s mostly my fault anyways.”
“What? Why?”
“It was kind of me that pressured you the first time.” I said rubbing the back of my neck.
That’s when he burst out laughing. “As if! Trust me Gracie, there was no pressuring.”
I blushed and smiled a little. “So, where does this leave our wedding plans?” I asked.
“We’re getting married right after I graduate.”
“That’s like two weeks.”
“We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
“I guess so.”
Suddenly my phone rang.
I looked at the caller I.D. and saw it was my mom.
I picked it up. “Hello?”
“Gracie?” My mom’s quiet voice began.
“Is something wrong mom? You don’t sound okay.”
