I groan rolling over onto my side. "Good morning." I jump, the incident from last night immediately popping into my mind. "Oh my god, Sarah!" I jump up, and start getting dressed. I need to find her! Suddenly I hear Sarah say, "What?" I gasp, and run over to her. She was lying on the floor with her own little bed made.
I grab her head and yank it to the side trying to find the cut on her neck. "W-Where is it?" Sarah yanks her head back, "Where is what Layla?" I step back and pull at my hair, "What the fuck is going on? I saw you! I saw you bleeding out! T-that guy cut you! With a claw!"
Kade looks at me like I've grown an extra head, "Layla... what are you talking about?" My breathing goes awry, I didn't imagine this. No I didn't imagine this. Not again.
"Layla, there was no wolf. It was a murder suicide. Your father killed your mother then killed himself. Your mind sometimes makes up a story to help justify such tragic events."
"No! I saw it! Why does no one believe me! I saw that thing attack them!"
"Layla, you're suffering from PTSD. It means post traumatic stress disorder. We're sending you to western psychology to get you the help you need. Your uncle thinks it's best if you go."
"There was a wolf! I don't have Ptsp or whatever the heck you just said! I'm not going you can't make me!"
"No. I saw it. I saw that man. His eyes, they were RED! No normal persons eyes are red!" Kade and Sarah look at eachother before Sarah says, "Layla.... I'm going to call your uncle and tell him about this. You're not thinking rationally."
My eyes widen in betrayal. "Are you fucking serious? There's something going on here! Just tell me stop trying to make me feel like I'm crazy."
Sarah yells back at me, "You are acting crazy Layla!" I narrow my eyes at her, "Fuck you both. Get the fuck out."
They look at me in amazement, "Are you serious?" I whip a book across the room and it crashes into the wall. "I said. Get. The. Fuck. Out! Now!" They stand up with angry looks on their faces and leave. That's when I call the only person I didn't hate.
"Hello?"
"Caleb.... I need you."
"I'll be right there."
We all lived really close since it was such a small town. I can't believe they would let me believe that I'm crazy after I saw it with my own two eyes. I felt the fear of losing her.
I scream angrily and start throwing things at the wall. Suddenly the door opens and Caleb ducks in perfect time as a shoe flies right at his head. "Jesus Christ Layla! What is going on?" I drop to my knees.
———
After telling Cal all that had happened he sat there quietly for a moment before saying, "We need to go to school we already missed first period." I look at him like he's crazy, "You have nothing to say Cal? Seriously?" He looks at me awkwardly and says, "Maybe Sarah and Kade are right. Maybe it's just your ptsd."
I glare at him harshly, "Yeah, we should go to school."
He sighs, "Layla, it just doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense." I nod, "Yeah, sure. Let's go."
———
We arrive at school, and I was already in a awful mood. We're they right? Was I just going crazy again? I shake the thoughts from my head and decide to eat my lunch on the lacrosse field. I didn't want to be around any of them. Suddenly I see the man from Kades house leaning against a tree right at the line of the woods.
That's it. I'm going I get answers. I drop my lunch, and start running towards him. When I get to him I stop out of breath. "You!" He laughs a little, "Me?" I glare at him, "No, the person behind you." He laughs again and says, "Can I help you with something Layla?"
My eyes widen, "How do you know my name?" He shrugs turning on his heel as he walks deeper into the woods.
Sure Layla, follow the shady hot guy into the woods sounds like a good idea. Maybe I really am losing it.
"What's your name?"
"Luca. Luca Black."
I shake my head, "Luca Black died two years ago. I would know his father was the officer on my mothers case."
He turns on his heel shrugging while walking deeper into the woods, "Maybe you don't know anything at all."
I ignore the imposter and say, "How'd you save her."
He looks at me confused, "Save who?"
"Sarah. How'd you save her after that guy cut her neck open with a claw."
He raises a brow and says, "I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know a Sarah, and I also don't know anything about a human with claws slicing necks open."
He was looking at me like I was crazy. Maybe I am.... I mean I was drunk. I could have just thought it happened. But it felt so real.
"Serious question, are you insane?" Without hesitation I backhand him as hard as I possibly could. His head whips to the side, and he slowly pulls back to look at me. He had this weird look in his eyes, "I would not do that again if I were you." I match his cold look and say, "I wouldn't repeat what you just said if I were you."
He steps closer to me, "You're talking like a lunatic about someone named Sarah getting her neck cut open by a man with claws. But you think asking if you're insane is an odd question?"
Hearing someone else say it made me feel even worse. Maybe they were all right. I was falling off the wagon again. Maybe they weren't lying to me, maybe my mind is lying to me.
I turn on my heel quickly as tears form in my eyes, "If I were you. I'd be more careful about who you follow into the woods." With hearing that I take off back towards the school.
