After school I head straight to the diner. With people just getting randomly murdered I figure it is best to get started early. I walk in and look around for Damien, but he is no where to be found. I walk over to Carly and say, "Hey have you seen that guy I was talking to yet?" She shakes her head no and then says, "Do you have time to talk?"
Shrugging I say, "Now is as good as a time as any." She sighs and says, "Tom cover for me." He nods, and she motions for me to follow her. We go behind the bar and into the kitchen. Carly moves a cabinet over revealing a door, and then pulls out a key. I she looks around to see if anyone was looking before opening the door and hurrying me inside. She shuts it behind her. "Just go down the stairs, I'll get the lights."
I had a weird feeling about walking into the dark but I trust Carly and continue down. I never knew there was a basement, but I guess that was the point of a secret door.
She suddenly hits the lights on and I see a room that looked like a boxing gym. Why hide a gym? That is until I turn around and see a wall of weapons. What the hell.
"There's some things you should know about me and my family."
She points at the wall of weapons and says, "This is my families legacy." I raise a brow, "They were weapon collectors?" She rolls her eyes laughing, "Layla I'm a huntress." I look at her confusedly and she says, "My family keeps the things that go bump in the night at bay. I wouldn't be telling you if I didn't know you know exactly what I'm talking about."
          I nod, "Werewolves."
She says, "Ehh, yes and no. Creatures like werewolves. However, my family signed a peace agreement with the Blacks since they don't often kill humans.  Other species aren't off the table though. Or other werewolves outside of the Blacks pack. Which in these parts are called rogues."
My eyes widen, "So you're like the death sentence for supernatural creatures?" She shrugs, "Never heard it put like that but yes."
I then say, "Why are you telling me all this?"
"Because a lot of people have lied to you for a long time, I want to be someone you can trust. I also heard you talking to Damien Black yesterday. You are going to need a place to train, and I'd rather it be somewhere I can end him if he tries anything slick."
That's when I pull her into a hug, as ugly as the truth was she told me. She didn't leave me in the dark and I respected that far more than she could imagine. She hugs me back and then says, "He's here."
"How the hell do you know that?"
"I'm a huntress Layla, I can sense these things."
"So you have super powers too?"
She rolls her eyes, "I can sense when a supernatural creature is near me if you consider that a super power."  I nod, "Definitely a super power."
She says, "Stay here I'll get him."
As soon as she walks away I look at all of the medieval looking weapons. What has my life become.
Carly comes treading down the steps with Damien following shortly behind her.
"You're in my territory Wolf, remember if you break any of my rules I will put you down."
Damien scoffs, "You are so scary. What makes you think I wouldn't put you down?" Carly points to a line of something that looked like dust covering the only exit. "I can just shoot you from behind this line."
He growls at her, "You locked me in." Carly smirks at him, "You will be released when you are finished, just safety measures is all." Damien rolls his eyes, "Be careful with her Layla, the huntress always has a plan."
Carly snorts, "Oh yeah, and the wolf is so trust worthy." They glare at each other before Carly takes her leave.
"Finally, some alone time." His smirk sent a chill down my spine. Did all of the bad guys have to be sexy?
"So what do you know about fighting?"
            I shrug.
"This is going to be a long night."
     ———
After 5 hours of fighting I was finally starting to get it. I was actually very good, I grasped everything he taught me pretty quickly. I am completely exhausted though.
We were currently sparing and Damien was whooping my ass. He slams me onto my back for what seemed like the hundredth time.
"Ugh Damien I'm too tired to keep fighting."
"I've barely broken a sweat Layla, get up."
I glare at him before shakily rising to my feet. As soon as I'm up he slams me back down. I groan and he says, "I'm sorry love it was just too easy."
"Dae I'm done." He froze, "What did you just call me?"
"It's a nickname, Dae instead of Damien. Do you not like it or something?" He seemed to be in a daze.
"No it's fine.... You just reminded me of someone is all."
He helps me up, and I kick his right leg out from under him laying him out on the ground.
"You're slick, that might just save you." But in seconds he kicks my legs out and I hit the mat. He climbs on top of me pinning my arms down over my head.
I smile up at him. We had bonded while training. I found myself actually liking his company. He looks at my lips, and then back up at my eyes. An idea pops into my head. I lean my head up quickly catching his lips on mine. He loosens his grip as expected and I buck my hips sending him flying over.
I jump on top of him and smirk once he is pinned, "How was that for slick." He looks at me with lust filled eyes, "Very slick."
I smile in triumph and stand up. I give him my hand and I pull him up.
"You learn fast, just as I expected. Tomorrow same time."
     "I have work."
         "Tell Carly you can't work."
     "I need the money."
He reaches into his wallet and pulls out another one hundred dollar bill. Then before I could react he slips it into my bra.
"I'll pay you for training. Now you don't need the money."
I raise a brow, "I think you just like spending time with me, Dae."
He growls lowly and replies, "Don't get confused. I like a challenge not you in specific." Ouch that hurt.
"Carly open this god damn thing before I kill her for real!" He screams up at her. Damn and I thought we were bonding.
Carly comes down and runs her finger through the Ashe. "Always a pleasure, Damien."
"Remember what I said, be ready for anything tomorrow's training will be different."
He then hurries out of the basement. I sigh and lean up against the wall. Carly comes and sits next to me.
"I just don't understand my life anymore."
"That's what happens when your whole life gets flipped upside down. It's going to take you a while to put everything in line."
I nod at her and say, "Is it just me or is Damien extremely hot?" She scoffs, "Oh my god, when he said he would put me down early I was like don't mind if you do." We both laugh and I say, "I kissed him."
         "Wait what?"
"I kissed him to distract him. The kiss was so hot I couldn't help but think what I would do to him under different circumstances."
We both gasp as Damien walks back into the room with a smirk, "Forgot my shirt."
           Carly and I blush.
He lazily throws his shirt over his shoulder, "What would you do to me under different circumstances, Layla?"
            I gulp embarrassedly, "Um... I... that's not what I-"
His smirk sent shivers down my spine, "Well have some alone time tomorrow. How about you show me then." He winks and leaves again.
Carly and I look at eachother like school girls before laughing until our stomachs hurt.
       ———
I was sitting through lunch by myself in the bathroom. I need some excitement. My days of solitude was getting boring.
Sighing I get up walking out of the bathroom. I felt antsy today, I don't know what is up with me. My eyes land on Nathan who was leaning on a locker talking to the school slut. Aka Thea Jordan. I walk over to them quickly, "This is your next best thing?"
Nathan looks at me in shock, "What are you talking about Layla."
"You lost your chance with me so you moved on to the school slut?" I was usually never this bold something about me was off. I was almost praying that Thea would say something.
"Watch your mouth psycho!" She spits angrily. A smirk falls onto my lips, "Say it again, I dare you."
She steps away from Nathan and stands face to face with me, "You're a psychopath." Without a second thought I throw a right hook landing right on her jaw. She flies into the locker by the sheer force of my swing.
People start coming into the hallway to see what the commotion was. I smirk at her as I felt my body come to life. It felt like electric was racing through my veins.
"Layla!" I hear Kade scream from the distance. Nathan smirks at me obviously amused.
Thea steadies herself and says, "Layla what the fuck is wrong with you!"
My hands were itching to attack her. "Come a little closer and find out exactly what is wrong with me." Nathan steps out of the way realizing how serious I was being.
Thea steps closer to me and tries to slap me. It felt like she was moving in slow motion, I had all the time in the world to dodge her.
After she obviously misses, I raise my foot and kick her forcefully in the chest. She flies through the air before hitting the ground, and sliding a few feet back.
I couldn't keep the smile off my face when I hear her struggle to catch her breath. My body felt like I was on a high. I've never felt this alive.
I run over to her and lift her up by her shirt. "You all like to call me psycho, watch how psycho I really am."
No one says a word as I plummet my fist into her nose. She screams in pain and her hands reaching out to scratch at my face. I catch her palm in my hand before snapping her fingers in the opposite direction.
Just as her ear piercing scream sounds through the hallway, someone grabs me from behind. I instantly turn and kick the feet out from under them. Kade hits the ground with a thud. I smile down at him.
His eyes flash blue, and I could tell he was getting pissed. His eyes widen in what looks like shock as he looks up at me. "Layla... your eyes." Only then could I feel the burning sensation in my eyes. It wasn't an uncomfortable feeling but I could tell it was there.
What the hell am I doing?
I look over at Thea who was sobbing on the ground and realization hits me like a train. What did I just do? The electricity in my veins dies down and I gasp, "Oh my god." I step back in horror before turning and bolting out of the school.
I've never lashed out like that, there has to be something wrong with me. I didn't even feel like myself. I take off down the sidewalk and start running home. No doubt I was going to be suspended. There was only one day left anyways but still.
Suddenly someone appears beside me as I run. I look at Damien because he always just somehow appears. I slow my run into a walk, and try to catch my breath. "That was vicious Layla."
My eyes narrow, "How could you possibly know what just happened."
"I keep tabs on you, love."
I shake my head and say, "I don't know what just happened I just lost it."
              "Jealousy is an ugly thing."
I reply, "No, I wasn't even just jealous. I was looking for a fight, I wanted to hurt someone."
He shrugs, "Yeah Layla, you're angry. You have been shoving your anger down for years did you not think it was going to come out?"
Pent up anger and aggression. It felt like it went deeper than that though.
"Damien I'm scared I'm going to hurt someone."
He laughs deeply, "Darling, I hate to break it to you, but you already did hurt someone." I wrack my fingers through my hair and sigh, "I know god damnit."
"Let's go to Carly's and start training early. I can help get some of the aggression out."
