Luca looked up from the grounded a pained expression on his handsome face. "Run."
I simply ignore him and narrow my eyes at the man, "Luca Black didn't have a brother."
            Answers, I needed answers.
"Oh yes he does. Just because they pawned me off onto another family doesn't make me any less of a Black."
They put him up for adoption. I still don't trust a word from his mouth, but as far as I knew they could be true words. "What do you mean I am your prize. I'm not like you people, I don't have anything to offer."
"Oh my dear, did they not tell you? Wow, Brother you simply amaze me sometimes." He kicks Luca in the stomach and I jump forward shoving him away from Luca.
"I'm going to suggest you don't put your hands on me again lovely. My temper can be quite the burden."
Damiens head snaps to the side, "Who could that be? Kade? Oh of course, Kade why don't you come join us."
Kade appears from behind a tree. Without hesitation he lunges at Damien. I take this second to try and pick Luca up. Sarah appears at my side helping me lift Luca up.
"Layla I'm sorry-" I cut her off, "Just shut the fuck up and help me get him out of here."
That's when a roar sounds out, and I see Kade get thrown like a frisbee into a nearby tree. Atlas seemingly appears out of thin air, lunging dangerously at Damien.
His face morphs into the same as Kades.... My brother is one of them?
Sarah and I start to hustle, moving as fast as possible with a bulky werewolf guy on our shoulders.
Luca groans in pain as he gets dragged faster now.
We were at the exit of the woods when I was tackled violently to the ground. We were a mess of tangled limbs rolling across the ground. Damien pins me beneath him, and his canines erupt from his mouth. I scream in terror as he starts leaning towards me.
Then just like that he is tackled off of me again causing Me to get elbowed in the jaw. My jaw throbs in pain. Sarah throws Luca out of the clearing, and then runs towards me. That's when I see Cal jump into the fight except he didn't morph like the others.
He had a dagger, he manages to plunge it into Damiens shoulder as Damien kicks the living shit out of Atlas.
It only lasted seconds though because then Caleb gets thrown. How strong was this guy?
Sarah reaches me picking me up bridal style as she sprints towards the clearing.
It was like capture the flag, me being the flag.
We get to the edge before I got tossed through the air out of the woods. I hit the ground harshly getting cut up by the road.
I look back to see Sarah getting absolutely mailed by Damien. His claws move rapidly at her back as she tries to crawl away. Pissed at her or not watching my friends die at the same fate as my parents was not on my to do list.
I see a car coming down the road and I scream, "Well come on then! If you want me come fucking get me." A twisted smirk plays on his face. I start taking slow steps backwards. His eyes were trained on me as he starts sprinting forward.
Once he gets close enough I turn on my heel and sprint backwards. The car comes flying forward with perfect timing I hear the horn of the car sound out before a perfectly timed crash into Damiens body.
He is then laid out on the ground. Much to my pleasure he didn't get up. I run back into the woods to find my friends. They were scattered across the woods Cal, Kade, and Atlas were on their feet. But Sarah was still down and Luca was no where to be seen.
I run over to Sarah the others following. She was breathing slowly and I felt my heart plummet as I saw her bloodied back. Atlas scoops her up, "We have to get her to Blaine. Where's Damien?"
I nod in the direction of the clearing, "He's down, I led him into a car."
Kade nods, and we all start walking towards the clearing. Atlas says, "I'm going to take her to Blaine, you guys go make sure he stays down." Cal nods in agreement.
"Sure we can go walk towards the psychopath no problem." His sarcasm never ceases to amaze me.
Atlas sprints in the opposite direction as we all walk towards where Damiens body lay.
That's when I freeze. Damien was no longer there, but a body lay on the hood of the car. Shredded limb from limb was the driver of the car. Tears spring to my eyes as I hold back the urge to vomit.
He killed the woman in cold blood... Does he have no sympathy?
"We have to get out of here. She dialed 911, they will be here soon." Without another word we leave the crime scene.
     ———
We all get back to my house, and I don't say a word I just hurry up the steps. "Layla, we need to talk about this."
I turn quickly their betrayal finally settling in without the adrenaline, "No. There's nothing to talk about. You all lied to me, not even that you made me think there was something wrong with me. There's no reasoning or explanation that could ever make that okay. Even my own brother." I shake my head before running into my room and slamming the door.
I feel like I'm in a movie, this is all too much to take in at once. I had never been crazy. There was a wolf in the bathroom.
They allowed me to feel like that with no remorse. That's when I hear the door open again, "Hey guys I missed you!"
          I heard my uncle say.
Then it was followed by quiet whispers. Which leads me to believe he knows too.
That's when there is a knock on my door. "Come in."
My uncle walks in slowly, "Layla.... It was safer for you not to know." I glare my suspicion being confirmed, "You know what, just get out. I don't want to talk to any of you. You are liars, to your own blood. You let me feel like there was something wrong with me. When the truth it, it's not me, it's you all. Family or not stay the hell away from me. I don't need your explanations or reasoning because there is nothing absolutely nothing that would ever cause me to do this to one of you. Now get out."
His eyes hardened, "Young lady you will not talk to me like this. Hurt or not I am still the adult. I know you're confused but-" that's when I stand up laughing sadistically.
"You lost the right to talk to me like that when you lied to my fucking face. I said get out."
"This is my god damn house Layla!"
I quickly reply, "Oh ok, then I'll do the pleasure of leaving. You're all dead to me. Blood doesn't give you the right to hurt me." I shove past him, and hurry down the stares. My anger clouding any reasoning I had left. Kade tries to stop me and I shove him harshly to the ground, "Do not fucking touch me. I know you heard what I said. You. Are. Dead. To. Me."
His eyes fill with hurt as I swing the door open and take off into the night.
I walk along the road in silence.
All the nights I cried myself to sleep thinking here was something wrong with me. All the times they allowed me to believe my father killed my mother. It was all a lie to hide an ugly secret. A secret that was only hidden from me.
I round a corner and see Bob and Rita's diner. I reach in my pocket and pull out a crumbled up twenty dollar bill.
Smiling to myself I walk in. Taking a seat at the closest table I sit down hoping to compose my thoughts. I was never crazy, But along the way they convinced me that I was. That I had ptsd from supposedly watching my father murder my mother and himself. All the awful thoughts I had about my father made me feel guilty for not trusting what I knew about him.
"Hey darlin', what can I get you to drink?" I smile kindly at the waitress who's name tag read Carly. "Just a coffee, please."
She gives me a confused look, "Did you get into a fight with the dirt?" She laughs slightly at her joke and only now did I realize I was covered in dirt. I laugh awkwardly, "Something like that."
"Well, I'll have that right out for you." I nod as she turns walking away.
God what am I supposed to do now? Why did he call me his prize? Why did he fight so hard to get me?
Questions swam in my head as I realized my thoughts were too scattered to make sense of anything.
Carly comes back around and sets my coffee on the table. It was pretty empty considering it was almost ten pm. She turns to walk away but then stops.
            "Penny for your thoughts Darlin'?"
Much to my surprise she takes a seat across from me.
I give her a small smile and reply, "I found out everyone closest to me was lying to me."
She nods with an understanding look, "I know how that feels, how'd you react?"
I laugh in a not so funny way, "I left. I just up and left my house. I don't think my prides going to allow me back."
She placed her head in her palm, "So what's your plan now?" I shrug, I haven't even gotten that far.
          "Do you have a job?"
    I shake my head no.
          "Somewhere you can go?"
    I shake my head again.
          "What about savings?"
Once again it was a no.
"You sound like me when I left my house. No job, and no where to go."
Sounds about right. I can't go back there though.
Carly then says, "Well, lucky for you I would like to help." My head perks up, as I wait for her to continue.
"When my parents passed they left this place to me. There's an apartment upstairs which a where I stay. You'll have to work for your piece but, other than that you're more than welcome."
School would be over in a week anyways. Was I really about to move in with a stranger when I could go back home? Hell yes.
