It'd been a long week. A really long week. So many pizza piles. How do kids manage to make them so tall?! Somehow they did. Y'know maybe they steal from the kitchen. They don't even get the fresh stuff out, it's just stolen from them. You'd been working afternoon shifts at Freddy FazBear's for about a week now, and you were starting to understand why people got so cranky in public places when ...... well working in a public place. It was awful. Worse than hell. You had noisy and nosy children who wouldn't pay attention to where they're running for the life of them. Then you got the parents who don't understand what personal space is. It was the absolute worst for you. Was William trying to make you go insane?!
Kato was struggling too. They were stuck with the night shift, and never wanted to hang out when you were free. And any time you mentioned Freddy's they would quickly change the subject. Maybe you should have a word with William to switch jobs with Kato. They clearly didn't like it. And whatever happened at night was scaring the crap out of them.
"Hey Kato?" You asked one frigid morning, handing them a cup of coffee. Five sugars and two creams. A good friend remembers how you like your coffee. And you are one of those friends. Kato took the coffee and thanked you quietly, sipping it. They winced at the hot temperature and smacked their lips a couple times. "Yeah?" They looked at you. You felt a pang in your heart seeing them, they looked so tired.. In that moment you made a decision to try and switch jobs.
"I was thinking." You started. "You aren't a night owl, not in the slightest. You're more of an early bird-" You shook your head realizing you were getting off track. "Anyways, I was thinking you and I should swap shifts. You could use the sleep more than me." Kato stared at you like you had five heads, shaking their head quickly. "You do not want the night shift Y/N. Trust me." They sipped their coffee after testing the temperature. You decided not to push it. Recently they've been kind of grumpy. It's probably the lack of sleep getting to them, which concerned you. What happened to the excited over-the-top-mind-of-a-five-year-old friend you had?
For the rest of the day you hung around Kato. Chilling at their apartment. They slept most of the day while you cleaned up the place. As the day wore on your concern for your friend only grew. They woke up a total of three times in the course of four hours in a cold sweat. You suggested they don't sleep anymore, but they insisted they needed the sleep or they wouldn't be able to get through the night. But they shouldn't need to be awake the whole time right? It's just watching an empty building. Unless.... it wasn't as empty as you thought? You shook your head at the thought, sighing through your nose as you reached up to put some dishes away.
"Y/N...." An eerie voice called from somewhere behind you. Spinning around you noticed the place was empty. Except for Kato sleeping quietly on the couch. "Hello....?" You called quietly, sounding uneasy. Did someone break into the apartment somehow?? Kato had triple checked the windows and door when they came home, no one could have gotten in without you hearing anyways. "Y/N......" The voice came again. It sounded like an amalgamation of children's voices. And you couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. Becoming weirded out you hastily walked over to your friend's sleeping figure and tried to wake them up. They were so jumpy before why are they now sleeping like a rock?! You shook them frantically, "Kato-?! Come on wake up!"
Something brushed past your shoulder, causing you to spin around. this time you did see something. A lot of somethings. Five of them. Transparent children with pitch black eyes and grey streaks running down their face. Each of them had a distinct wound that represented how they must have died. You took a quick step back and fell on your bum, wincing as you hit the ground. The children took a couple steps advancement on you. You scooted back quickly and hit something soft yet metallic. You tensed up, slowly turning to face what you bumped into.
The thing was a moldy yellow and it reeked of the dead. Actually. The smell would be enough to wake the dead. It was disgusting. You had to hold back a gag as your eyes trailed upwards. The fur on it was torn out in tufts and had hols in it, revealing mechanical wiring that burned out forever ago. You took in a shaky breath as you kept looking up, your eyes meeting with those of the creature you bumped into. They were dull and dead, glazed over. They could have been a brilliant purple before. But now they were pale, almost white. One of it's ears were torn off, revealing blue, red and green wires dangling over the moldy and spotty fur. You were too terrified to look away. Too terrified to do anything actually.
Tiny hands grabbed your shoulders, whispers filling the air. "Y/N..." You tried to shake it off, ignore the whispers. But they got louder. "Y/N.. wake up...." They got louder and louder until it was all you heard. Voices overlapping voices, darkness starting to make its way around you, circling like a predator waiting for its prey. You looked up at the molded rabbit costume for any aid in making it quieter, your hands over your ears. All it did was stiffly move it's head to look down at you, it's jaw slightly unhinged before suddenly lunging at out with an ear piercing screech.
You yelped as you jerked upright, breathing heavily. It was quiet now, no more whispers or moldy rabbit or dead children. Holding your shoulders was Kato, who looked at you with horror. "Y/N! Are you alright?!" They put a hand over your forehead to check your temperature. "How many fingers am I holding up?!" You looked at them in confusion. "N.... None...? Kato what-...." You looked around the room, it seems like you were back in the kitchen.
"I guess you were putting dishes away and you passed out. Are you sure you're alright? You're so pale.." They helped you up and into a kitchen chair. On the floor where you had been sitting was a shattered plate and a small pool of blood. You looked yourself over and noticed that one of the pieces must have cut your arm. That was probably the first thing Kato took care of. "You were making noises in your sleep." Kato said quietly as they checked you over to make sure you weren't sick or something. "Like whimpering kinda. And you kept saying 'no' and 'stop' or something like that."
You thought back to your nightmare and shuddered, looking down. "I must have lost some sleep this week." You mumbled. Kato frowned and left for a few seconds before coming back with a blanket, wrapping it around you. You gave a thankful smile and paused for a couple seconds. "Is there a yellow rabbit at the restaurant?" You asked quietly. You hadn't expected the kind of reaction you got from them, "Y-Yellow rabbit? No." They laughed nervously. "No I don't know if any yellow rabbit who told you that?"
You raised an eyebrow. That definitely didn't come off as suspicious. You decided not to push it. They were anxious enough with their current job. "Nothing. I just overheard a conversation about it." They let out a relieved sigh, then seemed to get an idea. "You wanna go hang out at the mall?" You smiled slightly at the idea. "You willing to put up with me passing out if we do?"
"Anything to get out of this stupid apartment."
"Then you got yourself a day out with a friend."
