You woke with a start, gasping and sitting upright. You reached a hand to your throat and lifted your shirt quickly. Nothing was there. it felt so real though... you let out a sigh and ran a hand over your face, pausing when you realized that you were supposed to see a movie with Kato. You groaned and pulled yourself out of bed, wincing and nearly collapsing at the insane soreness in your abdomen. You stood there for a second to recover and went to the bathroom to try and make yourself look less like a dumpster and more presentable. With just tens minutes you had detangled your sweaty mop and put on a simple T-shirt and some sweatpants. You really needed to do laundry...
With one last glance in your apartment you left and locked the door, making your way down three flights of stairs and getting to your car, which was where you called up Kato to see if they were already waiting at the theater. You hoped so. They always got the best spots. The phone rang. Once. Twice. Four times. They usually don't take this long to pick up... you bit your thumb anxiously. Did something happen? Had they gotten hurt??! You were about to hang up and call the cops before suddenly they picked up. "Hey Y/N!" They said, sounding quite groggy. "You know I totally forgot that we were supposed to see a movie." They yawned, the sheets shifting on their end. They just woke up too it seems. "Did I miss it?"
"To be honest we probably both did, I got up not even forty five minutes ago." You laughed a little bit. "Also don't scare me like that."
".... like- what..?"
You paused. "Never mind. You were asleep I can't be mad." You sighed. "I'll check movie times to see if there's another movie starting soon." You offered. Your friend groggily agreed, hanging up to finish waking up and get ready for the rest of the day. You decided to stop by a local Starbucks and grab a double shot. Kato's energy levels seemed to just crash after getting the night shift. So you figured you'd be a good friend and get them something to kickstart that energy. You knew the repercussions of giving so much caffeine to them. But they deserved it. Eh maybe you did too. You grabbed a triple shot on your way to the register and paid for them both before heading out to the theater, with full intention to smuggle them into the building and drink them during the movie.
You had beaten Kato to the theater, which was odd. Usually they get to your meet up spots first. Your mind flashed back to your nightmare and the words that still echoed in your head.. "You cant...." you cant what? Can't sleep? Can't live a normal life?? It was frustrating you to think about it. You shook your head, but the thoughts didn't dissipate. Instead they only grew louder, and louder. Until you couldn't take it and rushed off to the bathroom and locked yourself in a stall. Can't what?! What can't you do?! You ran through a million possibilities before you stopped, looking up at the disgusting stained wall. It had a similar checker pattern like at Freddy's. Though the tiles were smaller and reached up to the ceiling. But you couldn't help but think that... maybe that rabbit was trying to warn you..? But about what?! You wracked your brain for any possible answer or solution before some new words echoed into your brain, "SAVE THEM." Save them? Who's them? Where on earth did you come up with something so stupid and cryptic? Then again you did dream about a rabbit reeking of death in a child murder room that stabbed you and said 'you cant'— Wait a second was that the second piece? You can't save them? Or are you just crazy. Probably just crazy.
But.. what if it's talking about Kato..? After all no one can seem to properly identify them and they find it hilarious. You shook your head, running a hand through your hair. You were so tired.. this didn't make any sense. Maybe you should call Kato again just to be safe. You took a deep breath and pulled out your phone, dialing Kato's number. You waited.. and waited. And waited. And... voicemail. That never happened. Ever. Not even when you were first friends. You called again, same thing. This made your stomach twist. You felt sick. Why weren't they picking up?! You had talked to them just a couple minutes ago. What's going on??
The anxiety got the better of you and you went to the theater, picked up your stuff, and walked out. The movie can wait. Kato could either be in danger or just neglecting their phone, which they never do. You got in your car and sped towards their house. Your heart was pounding out of your chest as you ran through a million possibilities as to why they weren't picking up. While you drove there you kept trying to call, still. No answer.
Once at their house to barely even parked the car before jumping out and running to the door.
The first red flag you noticed was the door was open just a crack. Did someone break in?! "Kato-??!" You called, facepalming and cursing yourself when you realized whoever it was could still be there. Carefully and quietly, you pushed the door open, dialing the police just in case. Taking a deep breath to stepped inside and looked around. Nothing seemed to be out of place... usually a burglar would try to ransack everything. This didn't settle right.
Looking around every room on the first floor, you determined Kato must be upstairs, as the place was eerily quiet. Carefully and quietly as possible, you made your way up the steps and to the second floor. The upstairs also barely had anything moved. Their bedroom door was closed however. So.. maybe they're in there right..? You took a deep breath and mustered up all your courage before opening the door, expecting them to jump out at you.

Instead you were met with the smell and sight of blood. The scent was thick in the air and it already started to smell like rotting flesh. You gagged and put a hand over your mouth, taking a moment to recover before assessing the scene; blood was everywhere. Splattered across the walls, soaking the bed, dripping onto the carpet. In the center of it all was Kato. Torn and ripped at like an animal. They're torso was soaked and still bleeding, you couldn't even tell if they were face up or down. Their head had been covered with a pillow, likely to suffocate them or get them to be distracted enough to stab them. But either way, you felt like you were going to be sick and rushed out of the house only to throw up in their yard.
You couldn't get the image out of your head, their mangled body, the thought of having been able to do something sooner was now wiggling it's way into your thoughts. God you should've known the first time they didn't pick up! Your body shook as you looked at your phone, realizing you had 911 still dialed. You pressed the call button and tried to keep your cool while you shakily explained what had happened.
One tense phone call later and you were sitting on the front porch, trying not to throw up again. That didn't work. You were still recovering from heaving up whatever was left in your stomach when the sirens could be heard heading into the neighborhood. You felt so lightheaded... all you could think about was your best friends mangled body and the stench. Oh god the smell was horrible... you blinked a few times to try and stop thinking about it, to get your head to feel better but... that didn't work... nothing worked.
You were getting up to try and walk it off as the police cars came into sight, that's when your body collapsed into darkness.
