Meredith and Halle had a seventh period choir together. Both of them had amazing singing voices and had shared a love of music since elementary school. But after getting into the choir they'd each found their own cliques. Halle chose a few select girls that she deemed worthy of her time and attention. Meredith was a social butterfly and flitted from group to group excluding Halle and her crew. Today they arrived to class at the same time.
"Still mad, huh?"
"Get off my back, Mare," Halle threatened. She had a headache. Her mother was mad at her. She'd even managed to involve her father. Each teacher was assigning projects that seemed to be due all at the same time. Halle felt swamped and she knew her period was coming.
"You know, you had an in with Wilson today but, you blew it," Meredith said rubbing it in her face.
"I could care less about Wilson," Halle whispered to Meredith.
"Yeah, right. You want a boyfriend so bad it hurts," Meredith said just a little too loud.
"Tell the entire Vocal Music Department Meredith," Halle said turning on Meredith. "Just because I'm not a thot like you doesn't mean I need a man."
"For the last time, Halle, I am not a thot," Meredith said. Her face boiling red with rage.
"What's up, Halle? You got beef with my girl?" Ainsley, one of her friends asked from behind her.
"It's just Halle being Halle," Meredith said linking arms with Ainsley not wanting the scene to spread. "Let's go."
"Naw, I think you should let her talk," Halle egged Ainsley on wanting to blow off some steam.
"You don't want none, Halle. I'm not Meredith and I'm not gonna put up with your bullshit."
"Whatever," Halle said rolling her eyes. It would do her no good to have detention and get suspended for fighting so she backed way down and headed to her seat.
"That's what I thought," Ainsley said, adding insult to injury.
"What would you think if I hooked you up with a date for this weekend?" Meredith asked Ainsley trying to calm her down and change the subject.
"NO, thanks! The last time you hooked me up with someone he asked about you the whole night, Meredith."
"I promise that won't happen this time," Meredith told her. Although she couldn't exactly promise that he wouldn't be asking about Halle.
"Nope, come on. Let's see what Sussman has us working on today," Ainsley told her as they turned the corner and found their places on the risers.
