Endeavor said that he was going to be gone for a few weeks. Well instead of a few weeks it actually took about 2 months for everything to be sorted out. It Took 2 months of signing papers and interrogating and catching villains for everything to become settled down. He could have gone home. He knew that. He didn't need to spend the nights on the pull-out couch in his dark office when he could simply go home to his comfortable bed. But he didn't. Because even though he was pro hero endeavor, he was afraid to face Rei. After what she said that night, he was afraid of her so-called "talk" about What she would say, what she would do. And this pissed him off to no end. And so here he was totally pissed off, steam coming out of his body as he opened the lock to his house.
Inside was a complete mess. Okay, it wasn't a complete mess, it was an organized mess. His expensive leather couch was made into an impromptu fort with blankets and all and toys that were spread around everywhere. From where he was standing he could see a glimpse of the kitchen which was clean and organized but the countertops were filled with cupcakes. Freshly baked.
This was the first time he had seen the house in such a state. Usually, it was pristine and spotless. He slowly made his way towards the stairs from where he heard the sound of voices.
"Popcorns ready! " He heard the sound of his son Natsuo.
As he went closer he saw Natsuo holding a blue china bowl filled to the brim with popcorn as he made his way towards the stairs.
"Natsuo! " Endeavor shouted
Natsuo flinched dropping the bowl on the ground causing the delicate material to break.
"You insolent child do you know how expensive that bowl was?!? " Shouted endeavor.
He grabbed Natsu's hand and gripped it tightly causing the young boy to flinch and cry out. He saw tears coming out of his eyes as he struggled in his father's grip.
"Le..t me g...oo plea..se" Natsuo cried
"Not until you learn a lesson for what you have done! " Said endeavor
But just as he was about to pull him away Rei came running down the stairs.
Rei's P. O. V
Everything was going wonderfully. Rei had just spent two months alone with the children and was able to break their shells and create a new bond with them.
They had played for hours on end. Making forts in the living room. Baking cakes, brownies, and other pastries in the kitchen and having sleepovers in each other's rooms. Tonight they were going to watch a movie. They had just put shoto to bed and sent Natsuo downstairs to get the popcorn. They were picking a movie when rei heard the sound of something breaking. Concerned she left the movie selection to Fuyumi as she went downstairs.
During her descent she heard shouting. She quickly ran downstairs and when she did she saw red. She saw enji visibly steaming with a ferocious expression on his face holding her son in his vicious grip.
She ran and swiftly pulled Natsuo in her arm.
"Let him go enji" She said calmly
This seemed to anger him more as his expression got even darker
"Not until he has paid for this mistake! Do you know how expensive that bowl was!? "
Rei tried to keep her face straight.
"He is a child. He made a mistake it is your responsibility as a father to make him understand that, not give him harsh or corporal punishment" She said
She looked down at Natsuo who was cowering behind her. A new kind of feeling bubbled inside her. Anger. Pure unrelenting anger. That's what she was feeling as she looked at natsuos previously pale hand scarred with a nasty burn.
"Get out" She whispered,
"GET OUT!
Endeavor scoffed as he looked at her
" You seem to forget that this is my house. Not to mention that I am your husband. I will not have you speaking to me like that. I deserve your respect"
"YOU DESERVE NOTHING ENJI, YOU DESERVE NOTHING. YOU DON'T DESERVE ANY OF THIS! " Rei screamed
"YOU DON'T DESERVE TO HAVE THIS, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A FATHER, HELL YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE A PRO HERO, YOU DESERVE NOTHING!!"
For Once in his life endeavor was speechless. Speechless to what rei was saying and speechless to the way she acted clutching their son who was now openly crying. That's when he saw the wound on his son's hand. What had he done? He tried to say something when rei shouted
"GET OUT ENJI" she was crying too
He clutched his hand as he slowly retreated outside. He closed the door behind him making his way back to the agency. He tried to distract himself, he buried himself in work and papers but could not get rid of the images inside his head.
Rei Crying as she clutched Natsuo behind her whose pale hand was scarred with a ghastly burn. Caused by him. He remembered Fuyumi , tears streaming down her face, utterly terrified as she looked down clutching the railings of the stairs. And for the first time in many years, he remembered his firstborn.
How Utterly terrified he was when he learned he could not use his quirk because of his weak body. How he begged him to not be sent away from his mother. Oh, How he begged. He remembered the flames as they rose, as he ran into the burning building looking for his son. But he did not find him. He did not find anyone. Everyone in the school died in the fire. Everyone including Touya. Not a single body was found. He remembered drinking himself into oblivion. He hadn't told rei about touyas death. How could he tell her that her son, her beloved son had died? He couldn't bear that. Especially because he knew that Rei would blame him. so he told her how it was Touya who didn't want to talk to them, how he was happy in his new home and didn't want to talk to the people who cast him away.
"Maybe I don't deserve to be a father," He said as he slowly opened the locked drawer in his desk. "Maybe I don't even deserve to live," He said eyes hollow as he stared at the shining metal of his shotgun.
