"You can run, deputy, but we will find you," John's voice crackled over my radio. I scoffed before contemplating my reply. "Oh really?" I replied, sarcasm dripping off my words. I could almost hear his stupid smirk through the radio. I'd like to see him even try and find me. I mean, it probably wouldn't be hard, I tend to leave a trail of destruction wherever I go. Just this morning I set fire to a load of bliss plants. Really riled Faith up, believe me.

It was just starting to get dark and I was just about to set up a small camp for the night. Before I could start setting up the tent, my radio crackled from the floor. "Deputy? Are you there?" the familiar smug voice came out. It was John. What the hell did he want? "Yeah. I'm here. What d'ya want?" I grunted, clearly not making the effort to talk. "Why can't you just make it easy for us? It would be so much easier, for me and for you, if you just handed yourself over and confessed. So why don't you?" He interrogated, obviously looking into guilt tripping me. "Because I don't care for your cult, John. I seriously don't. Once you've been taken down, I'm leaving and not coming back," I explained harshly, his silence suggesting that he was taken aback by my words. "Well... wouldn't it just be faster for you to give yourself in?" He questioned. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Fine. Tomorrow, I'll bring myself in. Alright? Will that get you off my case?" I could practically feel his thrill from my camp. "You know where to find me, my dear. I'll see you tomorrow?" He said, almost too smoothly for my liking. "Alright. Goodnight John."
"Goodnight, my love."

That night was quite a sleepless one. I knew I was doing the wrong thing, so why did I want to do it so badly? I was practically drawn to him, and I had no reason as to why. I was going to be known as a traitor to the resistance, a liar, an idiot. Why didn't I care? The morning came too quickly. I was sat against a tree, watching the sunrise. It was calm, signalling the start of a new day, a fresh start. The radio crackled from beside me. "Good morning darling, are you awake yet?" Any guesses as to who it was? You guessed it. "Yes, I'm awake. I'm about to come and find you," I mumbled, yawning in the process. "And I look forward to it. I'll see you soon, dear."

I packed the rest of my stuff up and started to make my way to John's ranch. Luckily, I wasn't camped too far away. It was strange, the peggies that I passed by wouldn't shoot at me or shout curse words. Instead, they'd smile at me and say good morning. I wasn't used to this, but I was guessing that John had said something, they wouldn't have just started being nice to me, surely? Eventually, the ranch was in view. I heaved my bags filled with my belongings in up on my shoulders and carried on walking. The peggies waiting at the driveway looked at me with suspicion. "What are you doin' here?" One of them asked. "Turning myself in, didn't you know? Half the cult members in Hope County do by now," I said, tossing out a small smile. "Oh, we weren't aware. Go on in," the other peggie said, nodding at me. I smiled in return and carried on walking. I heard them mumbling behind me. "Always knew John 'ad a thing for her," the first one said. "Yeah, I thought he'd get her to come crawlin' at some point," the other said, clearly meaning for it to sound like a rude remark. A small chuckle was earned from both of them, then it was quiet again.

Eventually, I made it up the unnecessarily long driveway and up to the house. I stood looking at it for a little while, questioning whether I really wanted to do this or not. "Come on Y/N, don't get nervous now. You didn't feel bad about it before, and you won't now. Stop being a wimp," you mentally scolded yourself. I sighed and stepped to the door, hesitating to knock. Once I finally gained the courage to give a small thump on the door, my heart started to race. "This is giving the cult what they want, and I don't care?" I asked myself. I began to question myself on whether I had ever wanted to be with the resistance in the first place. Before I could get any deeper into my thoughts, I was pulled into a tight embrace. "I knew I could trust you to come to us," John said, playing with the tips of my hair. I gave a small nod and hesitantly put my arms around him.

"Welcome home, Y/N," he murmured, kissing my forehead gently. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad after all...
