Misunderstanding

The next day came around, it was a normal day and everyone did their own daily routines. Meanwhile in the office, Shinobu was lost in thought but snapped out of it when Mitsuri spoke. "Shinobu-san, is something wrong?" she asked. "Nothing really. Do you need something Mitsuri-san?" she asked and smiled. "Oh yeah, can you please copy these for me?" she asked as she handed out a piece of paper. "Okay then," Shinobu says as she gets it. Misturi thanked her then walked back to her desk. Shinobu looked at it and it was a report about the recent murders happening. "How unfortunate the victims are," she muttered with a sigh. Shinobu then headed towards the printer and did what she needed. As she waited, her phone vibrated. Shinobu got it out and it was her sister. "Nee-san, hello," Shinobu beamed. "Hello Shinobu, can I know if Sanemi-kun is around?" she asked. Shinobu looked around but did not see him anywhere. "He isn't. Come to think of it, he is out on a business trip," Shinobu replied. Kanae sighed then says, "How about Tomioka-san? Is he there? Can I talk to him?" Shinobu flinched and looked around nonetheless. She spotted him writing by his desk as usual. "Yes he is, do you need something?" she asked. "I wanna talk to him. Can I?" Kanae asked politely. "Sure," she replied.

Shinobu went over to Tomioka and tugged his sleeve. "Hey Tomioka-san?" Shinobu says. Tomioka looked up at her in question. "Kanae nee-san wants to talk with you," she says and handed him her phone. Tomioka took it and began to talk. Shinobu didn't mind it and just went back to the printer and waited. A few minutes passed and Shinobu got the copies then brought them to Misturi who was thankful as always. Shinobu nodded then went back to Tomioka, who was still chatting with Kanae. "And then he suddenly pulled out his gun and I has to stop him haha," he says. Kanae's laugh could be heard from the other line and Shinobu is confused and curious. "What are they talking about?" she thought. "Now now! Do the thing!" Kanae stated. "Hahah, do I have to? I'm not alone you know?" he answered. "I wanna hear it again! It's been so long and he isn't there to tell me instead!" she whined like a child. Kanae has never acted like that before and it made Shinobu alert. Why was she suddenly like that all from talking with Tomioka?

"Do I really have to?" he asked. "Yes please! For my sake!" she begged. Shinobu was about to speak and take the phone when Tomioka beats her to it. However... These words made the world slow down when it reached Shinobu's ears loud and clear. "I love you," he says. Kanae giggled behind the other line and Shinobu could feel her smiling. "That's so sweet! Thank you Tomioka-san!" she replied. "Yeah, I'll talk with you later again," he says. "That would be nice!" Kanae replied. "I'll give it back to Shinobu now, you wanna talk with her?" he asked. "Yeah, a few words with her before l go back to work would make my day," Kanae says. Tomioka was about to get up when he finally noticed Shinobu. "Oh hey, I'm done. Kanae-san still wants to chat with you," he says. Shinobu snapped out of it and cracked a fake smile. "Yeah, yeah! I'll talk with her!" she says and snatched the phone out of his hands. Tomioka was surprised when she dashed away from his sight. Even so, he just went back to work.

Shinobu went outside the quarters and greeted her. "How was the talk with Tomioka-san?" she asked. "It was great! Also, I can't wait to come back home next week! Are you as excited as me Shinobu?" she beamed. "Yeah haha... Anyway, I have to go back to work. I think you should too nee-san," she stated. "Awwe, I wanted to chat for a little while longer though. But yes, we need to work again. Bye Shinobu! It was a fun call from home!" she stated in a cheery tone. "Yeah haha, bye nee-san," Shinobu replied then ended the call. Shinobu slowly lets her arm drop to her side as she felt hurt for some reason. She doesn't know why. Is her sister and Tomioka a couple? How come she never said anything? How come Tomioka acted intimately with Shinobu sometimes? Whatever the reason, hearing him say those words to her made her feel like a knife hit her chest. Kanae is better in every way than Shinobu, she knows that, and that may be one of the reasons why Tomioka would go out with Kanae. Shinobu stayed silent as she stoof there for a few minutes.
