Reasons why I think this:
1. They gave him a strangely high amount of "screen time" in Squirrelflight's Hope.
2. The entire time Squirrelflight was in StarClan she was desperate in wanting to return to Bramblestar and not stay in StarClan. Ashfur would have seen this.
3. We see Bramblefake send Sparkpelt into a trap against dogs -- Ashfur's mother was killed by Tigerstar(claw) for the purpose of becoming the equivalent of dog food in the first arc.
4. Bramblefake's clingy behavior to Squirrelflight -- Ashfur was possessive and clingy to her
5. Bramblefake singled out Lionblaze as a "codebreaker" - Ashfur attacked Lionpaw(blaze) as his mentor.
6. Codebreakers - Squirrelflight harbored Leafpool.
Reason I really hope it's him:
Harper Collins would finally fix their message that "conspiring (helping) in an attempted murder of someone's father and making her watch as her children burn alive is perfectly fine and healthy method of showing them you love them 'too much'."
