In the morning, I awoke alone in Darry's bed. I sat up, reigniting the stinging in my ass. Quickly, I jumped off the bed and went into the kitchen where I found a note on the fridge.

Went to work. Will be back at usual time.

Love, Darry

So I had the whole day to myself. I wasn't listed any chores to do, but I figured I should go ahead and clean up the house a little to get on Darry's good side. That also meant I could call Curly and fill him in on what was happening.

I picked up everything that was on the floor and put it in its rightful place and swept. I left the bathroom alone because most of that mess was Soda and I's hair gel, and Soda could get around to cleaning it if he wanted to. It didn't bother me much at all.

I finished picking up my and Soda's room at around 11:30, and decided that would be the right time I could call Curly. He was probably skipping school today, anyway.

I picked up our phone and dialed in his number. The phone was picked up after three rings. It was Curly.

"Hello?" He said coolly.

"Hey, Curls. It's me, Pony." I said excitedly.

"Pony! Where ya been?"

"I got suspended for two whole weeks. Dar's mad as hell. He'll get over it, though." I said coolly. I really didn't feel this cool, but I didn't want to sound like a baby.

"Shit, man." Curly exclaimed. I was glad he didn't ask further questions. That could lead into some embarrassing conversations. "There's a lot of talk at school. Johnathan's tellin' everyone he won the fight, and that when you're back, he'll get you for good. He's all bark and no bite, though, Pones. I wouldn't worry."

"Why would I worry? You saw what I did to 'im at lunch. I ain't got nothin' to worry about. Tell him to meet me tomorrow night at around 7:30 behind the school. Then we'll talk. Tell him it'll just be me and him." I said. I felt like Dallas Winston, and let me say that was an awesome way to feel.

"I will. He prolly won't show up, though." Curly responded with a sigh. I could tell he'd be disappointed if either of us chickened out.

"Tell him if he doesn't show, I'll come find him."

"Will do. Tim's comin' over to talk to me, so I should prolly go so you don't get ratted out to Dar. Don't want him to beat your ass again." Curly laughed, making my ears go bright red.

"What're you talkin' about, Curly?" I said worriedly. I hoped the word hadn't spread from Steve.

"You know what I'm talkin' about, Pony." He responded coolly. After quite some silence, he said "Don't you? Steve's been sayin' shit. No one believes it, though."

I was quiet.

"It's true?" He cackled. My whole face flushed red. "I can't believe that Ponyboy Micheal Curtis got spanked by his big brother!"

"Don't tell nobody, Curls. Imagine how embarrassed you'd be if I were to say somethin' like that to somebody about you." I threatened.

"Oh, yeah? Like what?" He challenged. I knew exactly what I was going to say.

"That you're actually a virgin and that Christine turned you down." I stated bluntly, keeping full control over my voice while on the inside I was actually insanely worried.

"Alright, alright. Pones, I won't tell nobody." He stated, and I could tell he was telling the truth.

"Ok. Well, I oughta go so Darry don't catch me on the phone. You know how made he gets." I joked.

"Yeah. Wouldn't want him to-" Curly started, but I cut him off quickly.

"Shut up, ya stupid fuck." I told him. He chuckled and I hung up the phone.

But when I turned around, I saw Darry standing there with his arms crossed. I must've not heard him come in while I was on the phone.

"Darry!" I yelped like a scared puppy. "You weren't s'posed to be home until 5:30!"

"I forgot to tell you that there's leftovers in the freezer so I came home and happened to hear most of your conversation." He said in a smooth tone, cocking an eyebrow at me. "I thought I told you to stay away from Curly. And when have I let you use the phone when you're grounded? Or that kind of language any time?" He looked at me like he was expecting an answer, so I just shrugged meekly. "That's what I thought. You can stay in your room all day today and think about what you've done, and we'll talk when I get home."

"But, Dar, I haven't eaten yet!" I argued.

"Take the food into your room." And with that, he was out of the door. I sighed and made myself a plate and took it to my room.

This was going to be my third worst day in a row.
