I woke up at around four in the morning with a familiar sting in my ass. I groaned as I realized that I had to pee, but got up and trudged over to the bathroom. I quickly took a leak, washed my hands, and stepped out.
"Hey, Pones." Darry said, making me jump. I figured he was going to take his morning shower. That meant I only had a few hours left to sleep, so I figured I would go ahead and head back to my room. Darry gently swatted me as I walked past, making me wince. He chuckled, and I rolled my eyes. "See you in a few hours." He said with a grin.
I flopped onto my stomach next to Soda and slowly dozed off.
That morning, I was awoken by Soda singing in the shower. This time, it was Disney's Little Mermaid. I rolled over and checked my alarm clock, which showed it was almost 6:30. I groaned and closed my eyes, knowing Darry would be coming in to wake me up for school soon.
A few seconds later, Darry walked in. "Ponyboy." He cooed, stringing out the "boy" part of my name. I hated when he did that. "Time to get up."
I pretended not to hear him, but he didn't seem to care.
"Pony, get up." Darry said, crossing his arms. I peeked at him under my arm and whined. I did not want to go to school today. He came over and picked me up and set me on the floor. I groaned and tried to flop back on the bed, but he held me up.
"Dar..." I whined. "Please." He chuckled and picked me up bridal style, carrying me into the kitchen. He opened up the medicine cabinet and pulled out my anxiety medication. I groaned as he set them down in front of me.
"Pony, we ain't gonna fight about this this mornin'. Remember what happened last night when you did? We can do it again if you want to, but I'd rather not, and I doubt you would either." He stated, crossing his arms. My ears turned bright red as I remembered last night, feeling the reminding sting in my ass once more.
I held out my hand for the pills and Darry nodded. "That's more like it." He praised. I rolled my eyes and swallowed the medicine. "Now, go get ready."
I did as I was told, walking back to my room.
"Hey, Soda?" I asked, pulling on a new shirt.
"Yeah?" He asked, popping his head into the room.
"Can you drive me to school today?"
"Sure, Pones." He said with a grin. I walked past him to the bathroom.
In around fifteen minutes, Soda was calling me out of the door. As I plopped down in the front seat of the truck, I winced. Soda chuckled at my pain so I flipped him the bird, but he rolled his eyes and lightly smacked me upside the head.
On the way to school, we saw Johnny walking. I rolled down my window, leaned out, and flipped him off jokingly.
Soda grabbed my belt loops and pulled me back down to my seat. "Be nice." He scolded. "Hey, Johnny! Want a ride?" He hollered out of the open window. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"Sure!" He said, running over to the car and hopping in the back seat. "Thanks, Soda."
"No problem." Soda replied, shooting me a look. I crossed my arms and sank down in my seat. I liked Johnny, but I just kind of wanted it to be just me and Soda. Whatever.
The day went on like normal. Well, until lunch time that is.
"Hey, Pony. I got a dare for you." Curly walked over, punching me in the shoulder with a devilish grin.
"Yeah? Do ya?" I said, punching him back. He nodded.
"I dare you to go over there and flirt with Jamie, and if her boyfriend tries to fight, fight back." I sighed, knowing this could get me into a lot of trouble. I looked at Curly, grinned, and then walked over to Jamie Idolph.
She was a very pretty girl with long, dark hair and bright blue eyes. She was real smart and was in all my classes.
"Hi, Jamie." I said, sitting in the empty seat next to her. I tried to do a Soda grin, and hoped that it looked good. I pulled out some of my Dally vocabulary, and she blushed so it seemed to work.
"Is this greaser bothering you?" Johnathan, her boyfriend, came over and sat by me. I tried to keep my cool, but started to sweat a little. I could see Curly out of the corner of my eye stifling a laugh.
"No, John, it's fi-" Jamie started, but I cut her off.
"She's fine, Johnathan." I stood up and got in his face. He glared at me. I was much smaller than he was, but I was more muscular so it would be a pretty even fight.
"Stay away from my girl, trash." He growled.
"Don't tell me what to do, little rich boy." I responded with a smirk.
He started to talk back, but I cut him off with a sharp punch to the jaw. Everyone in the lunch room looked over at us as we started a fight.
Johnathan punched me in the stomach, but I hopped on him, knocking him to the floor and going at it.
I had to be pulled off by a lunch lady, but I was satisfied because I had given Johnathan a bloody nose, and Curly looked very proud. I flashed him a grin, but was dragged down to the office before he could respond.
Once there, I sat proudly next to Johnathan in a seat.
"Ponyboy, Johnathan, Mr. James will see you now." The receptionist told us. I stood up and strutted over to the office door and took a seat, adrenaline still pumping through me.
"Boys. What were you thinking? Especially you, Johnathan. You don't usually act like this." Mr. James scolded. I rolled my eyes, but Johnathan looked down solemnly. "Don't you roll your eyes at me, Ponyboy Curtis. You threw the first punch, so you're in the most trouble. Rumor has it, you started it. Johnathan, you seem to have learned your lesson already. You may go."
"Thank you, sir." He said quickly, getting up and swiftly walking out of the office. I leaned back in my chair coolly. I wasn't gonna take any shit.
"Ponyboy, I'll be calling your guardian to come pick you up. You're suspended for two weeks." He stated. "You may leave my office now. Go sit in the waiting room and wait for your brother to get here."
All of my adrenaline went away immediately when I thought of Darry. I guess there went not taking any shit.
What had I done?
