Katniss
I burst out the door from underground, wincing momentarily at the light. But I see her - Oenothera - and I run as fast as my legs can carry me. Before we excited the tunnel leading us up here, the workers of Thirteen decided to shoot down the hovercraft, to not spare any Tributes. Snow was mine to take.
Then, I saw Oenothera on a screen. The cameras District Thirteen had set up had been previously hacked by the Capitol to broadcast the Games nationwide, but this one was not. And this one shows my daughter, her arms outstretched, an arrow facing her heart.
"No!" I scream, abandoning my team members to rush out onto the Arena as quickly as possible. I ran towards her, screaming at her to stop, tripping over rubble, but my screams were carried away by the wind. Her arrow shakes, and I know I'll never reach her on time. So I nock my own bow, still running, and aimed. At this moment, I wish I had continued to shoot over the years. I haven't shot an arrow since the Rebellion, excluding the one that now protruded from Coin Junior's heart. But I have to save my daughter. So I aim at her ankle and shoot. She falls with a cry, and suddenly there is a bang, an earthquake, and I see the hovercraft falling.
The ground shakes violently and I am knocked over, but I regain my composure quickly, looking towards Oeno. She's on the ground, gripping her ankle in pain, but her arrow is gone. She had fallen before it had flown, and it had sailed clean over her head. I exhal in relief and stumbl over to her, holding her, ignoring the commotion behind me.
"Mom?" she blinks, letting go of her ankle, her hands covered in blood. I feel guilty for hurting her, but an arrow in the ankle is better than one through the heart. "Is that you?" she's disorientated, but she's safe. "Is this real?"
I smile a little at the irony, when suddenly, I hear his voice.
"Katniss!"
I must be imagining thiings. He must be dead, surely. He was on the hovercraft. Maybe he was still being controlled by the Capitol. He wouldn't call for me in the way he is now - with relief, with longing, with love.
But I look up, and there he is, running towards us: Peeta.
Suddenly, he is knocked off his feet by an explosion.
And all I can think of is Gale.
