Melody's POV
I was still fuming about Steve's encounter with Nick. How dare he try and tell us how to live our lives? We weren't doing anything wrong, everything was legal. Granted, we were right along the edge of legal and illegal, but we were being careful.
But, be that as it may, I was still expecting Nick to try again. And this time I knew he'd try this shit on me. And I was ready. So when Coulson came to collect me, I put on my game face. It was time Nick knew that I wasn't just a political mediation. I was Alpha. And no one was making me back down.
"How are you settling in, Ms. Lupine?" Nick asked as Coulson left the room.
"Quite nicely, actually. Everyone has been very welcoming," I replied, calculating the situation. I knew it wouldn't take long for Nick to decided to direct the topic to my love life. All I had to do was act oblivious.
"Even Tony? That's a surprise," He chuckled and I forced a polite smile.
"He was a harder nut to crack, but he's got my back and I've got his," I replied.
"What about... Steve?" There it was. The quick direct to the angel himself.
"What about Captain Rogers?" I asked, playing dumb. My hope was that Nick would slip up; maybe say something offensive.
"Has he been welcoming?"
"Why wouldn't he be?" I asked.
"He's had a rough time adjusting to the 21st century. I was just wondering if he had been too focused on his own adjustment to notice yours. He is your Captain, and he should be welcoming."
"Director, I assure you that everyone, including Captain Rogers, has been very welcoming and understanding of me and my customs. You have nothing to worry about," I said, noticing that this felt exactly like a council meeting back home; where I had to outwit ancient crones who thought they knew best just because they were super old.
"Has the Captain been... overly welcoming?"
"Sir, stop beating around the bush. You want to know if Captain Rogers and I are together, yes?" I asked, growing very bored. Besides, I knew that Nick would think he had all the power of I said something like that. Which left me open to swoop up under him and let him know how was in charge.
"Well, are you?" He asked. Good, he took the bate.
"We are. But seeing how that's none of your business, I'm left to wonder how that is relevant. I wonder how my mother would feel if she knew that you referred to me as a, oh what did you call it? Oh, yes. A 'political mediation'. The heir to her throne reduced to a ploy in a political agenda. That alone is despicable. But let's also bring up the fact, that you don't have control over what I do or how I spend my free time. As far as you are concerned I am a liability and a very dangerous one. I can have your entire solar system decimated if I wanted too. Of course, you knew that. My mother told you should you ever offend me or hurt me in any way, that was the consequence. Now, I am fully aware of my age, Director, but what I am also fully aware of is that this is my third lifetime and therefore I am much much older than I look. And while you are correct that being romantically involved with a co-worker or teammate can end badly, you should also know that I haven't been in a relationship since my betrothed tried to molest and rape me two years ago. As you can imagine, I have trust issues when it comes to relationships, romantic or otherwise. So if I trust that things will be just fine between Captain Rogers and myself, then you, Director Fury have no place to decide that it will end badly. And should you ever try this shit again, I will rain Hell upon you, do I make myself clear?" I said and Nick gulped, his skin very pale.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Good. Now, any other questions?"
"No."
"Very well. I'll see myself out," I said, making my way back to the Avenger's tower.
"Hey, Mel," Tony smiled upon seeing me.
"Hey," I said, plopping down next to him.
"How was your meeting with Fury?"
"Eventful," I answered and he rolled his eyes.
"Didja give him an earful?"
"I may have threatened solar system decimation. Does that count?" I asked and his eyes bulged.
"You did what?" Steve asked, entering the room.
"I didn't take Fury's shit," I reiterated.
"So you threatened the whole solar system?"
"I was making a point. Although I could technically follow through if I wanted. Which I don't. Calm down, both of you," I rolled my eyes.
"If you can't handle her at her most badass, you don't deserve her any other time," Nat said, strolling in the room. "So, care to show us the memory?"
"Are you sure?" I asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"Come on, Lupine, show us how much of a badass you are," Sam said and I sighed.
"Fine. But you can't judge me," I said, casting the spell that allowed my memory to play like a movie suspended in midair.
"Holy shit," Tony said when the memory ended. "I've never seen him so scared before."
"How did you get him to back down so easily? While your words were powerful, that alone shouldn't be enough to shut him up," Nat said and I smiled.
"So you know how I'm a Werewolf?" I started and everyone nodded. "Well, we have statuses. Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. I am an Alpha. And with that, comes something known as Alpha Power. It gives you influence over other Werewolves and depending on the Alpha it can be stronger or weaker compared to another Alpha. I have so much Alpha Power that I can make any other living being obey me, including Humans. I was using it while I was bitching out Fury," I explained.
"Steve, you really can't fuck this up. She can make you obey her," Tony smirked.
"Shut up, Tony," I growled, using my Alpha Power.
"Sorry," Tony whimpered.
