"Sisi look at all your toys over there!"
I stand with Court and Lisa, trying to get her attention away from the pool she so badly wants in.
"You got so many new toys! You should play with them."
"Awuahavagab!" She points to the pool jumping around, mumbling something.
"Baby not yet. Too early."
I grab her before she tries to run in anyway, secretly wishing Brad would have listened to me and put the fence up already.
"Look how cute she is in her little dress!" Court takes her, dancing around "The party might be boring but at least we have this cutie to look at!"
"Oh, thanks. I'm glad my party is boring."
"Well Jen it is a one year old's party..."
"Whatever. There's free food and drinks. And as long as Brad didn't find and eat the cake, there should be some of that too."
Sienna runs over to Brad and George eventually, flipping out because they aren't watching every little thing she does and she has to be the center of attention.
"She's so spoiled. Look at how they cater to her." I watch as they eventually take turns holding her, helping her point out everything she finds interesting "I swear Brad was the most excited about today."
"He really loves her. I still can't believe someone in our group actually has a one year old. I feel too young for that."
"Yeah, wait until you have one. They make you feel old real quick."
We take Sienna back, keeping her entertained on her little playset while Brad gets changed into his unicorn costume since she's been obsessed with them recently.
"Do you think she's going to like it?" My mom looks up from pushing Sienna's swing "I mean she got scared of that horse the other day."
"Yeah we aren't too sure. We're just gonna try and see what happens. We figure it'll lead to some good pictures either way."
"I think she'll like it," Jane hands us some snacks "I think he might have to take the hat off so she can see who it is, but that'll make her like it even more."
Everyone else seems to agree, knowing how obsessed she is with Brad and every little thing he does recently.
"Oh my God..." Sherry turns towards me "Jen there might be a problem."
I look up from Sienna to see Brad walking over in a full on monster costume.
"What the fuck, Brad?"
"What, is it too scary?"
"Yes it's too scary!" I pull him back towards the side so she doesn't see "This is your one year old's party! Not a halloween party. What were you thinking?"
"Well..."
"Well what, Brad? How did you mess this one up."
"You know how you told me to pick up the costume last week? Well I kinda lied when I said I did."
I stand in front of him, arms crossed, waiting for a better explanation.
"I went for it and just forgot where I was supposed to go. So I got those condoms and flowers instead."
"Are you being serious right now? I send you out for the costume you're wearing for our daughter's birthday and that translates to condoms and flowers?"
"I forgot."
"Still doesn't explain the monster costume."
"Yeah, so last night I remembered I never got it. You know how I told you we needed more ice? Well it wasn't really the ice that we needed."
"No shit."
"I went to get the costume but since we never picked it up, they let someone else have it, and all they had left was this or a bunny. And the bunny was grey, and the monster pink. So obviously I picked the pink monster since she loves pink."
"You are such a fucking idiot! The bunny would have been so much better."
"Uh guys," Court looks around the corner "I know you're arguing right now but Sienna would really like to see you."
"You take that mask off or I'm going to kill you."
"I love you."
We walk back out, him holding the mask behind his back, but it doesn't help much.
Sienna takes one look at him and is terrified.
"Nooooooo!"
She runs over to me, terrified beyond words as she clings onto my legs shaking like crazy.
"Aw come here, baby."
I pick her up, cuddling her closely as everyone else laughs at Brad's huge fail.
"Mama..." she mumbles, burying her head in my chest so she can't see anything.
"Sisi it's okay," Brad gets closer, putting his mask back on before I can stop him "Look it's not scary. It's just a costume!"
Her screams get even louder as I give Brad a death glare, warning him he has gone way too far with this. She clings onto me, her whole little body shaking more and more from how scared she is.
"Brad seriously," His dad looks at him, very unimpressed "I don't know what you were thinking but I thought you were at least smarter than this."
"They didn't have the unicorn costume. It's not my fault."
"I think you should just go change. Get that weird thing off of you."
He luckily walks away, still not understanding what was so wrong with his idea while the rest of us try to cheer up Sienna.
"Look! Daddy has your cake!" Lisa takes her from me, pointing to Brad carrying the cake towards us "It has so many unicorns on it. Look how cute it is!"
We all start singing to get her attention as he gets closer, watching as she smirks the whole time enjoying all the attention she's getting.
"Can you blow out the candles?" Brad holds the cake up to her, but she just looks at us confused "Blow."
She shakes her head looking over at me.
"Should we help you?"
Brad and I lean in with her, blowing out the single candle as she starts clapping from all the cheers.
"Look how excited she is," he pulls me closer as we watch her eat "I can't believe she's actually one."
"And I can't believe you thought that costume was a good idea."
