لمبی ہے غم کی شام مگر شام ہی تو ہے

SEVENTY-TWO HOURS AGO
The whole house was happy, and enjoying because their princess was about to get married. Syra was gleaming and she could not help but think how happy her one yes had made everyone.
Everywhere she looked, she saw glowing lights and flowers, her mother muttering and stressing, whereas, her father just like always laughing and calming her.

The whole house was lit up like a Christmas tree. Everyone was roaming here and there. Everyone but her paternal family. Her father lost his parents when she was just a baby. He did not have any brother, thus, she did not have any cousins. The distant relatives were not yet invited because they planned to do an intimate Nikkah.

She was so happy and elated but there was this unwelcoming feeling in her chest, she was uncomfortable and she did not know why. 'Maybe it's the wedding jitters and I'm just anxious.' She thought but even after this her heart was unconvinced.
She was brought downstairs where everyone had been waiting for.

She had tears in her eyes and she was not understanding this unpleasant feeling. 'I should be happy!' She murmured but nothing was calming her restless heart.
She looked up and to everyone through her veiled eyes and noticed him.

He was her close friend not best but they were really close. She once had a crush on him but now she had grown up and no longer have any childish crush over him, even though her heart starts beating as if she ran a marathon whenever he is near her, like right now.

Seeing him she felt peace filling her body, there was unpleasantness still but it was not taking her breath away, as if something or rather someone was choking her, it was not bothering her the way it was before. She never understood why she was feeling this way. She shooed these unwanted thoughts of her away because in just a few moments she will be someone else's wife, someone else's pride. She smiled on the thought, despite her heartfelt upset over this. The aura around her was gloomy, yet happy.

She had been convincing herself that this alliance was the one, no matter how much her heart argued, she did not give any heed to it. And now after such a long battle she was here sitting as a bride, waiting for her groom.

"The groom and his family should be here by now." She heard whispers of a few Aunties who were her mother's friends.

She was nervous and now scared because they were late.
She had all sorts of bad thoughts filling up her mind. Her rêverie was broken when she heard a loud wailing sound of her mother.
