five a ruined start.

a young boy leaned onto his house's fence, scrolling through his phone waiting for someone. from time to time he glanced to the street hoping for a sign of the expected's appearance but after ten or so minutes with not even a cat passing by his house, the boy sighed and goes back to his house.

but as he got in the porch, a crackling sound of the leaves and hurried footsteps came near him. he turned and found a man in all black he'd been waiting for approached him.

"what took you so long?"

not even a hi or a hello is what greets hyunjoo. but he didn't mind even if his friend is younger than him. "just caught up on the road."

the other raised an eyebrow suspiciously, nevertheless, he didn't ask further questions. the boy knew not to meddle with his business because once he saw hyunjoo almost put a dude on a fucking chokehold when the older found out the dude was hacking through his computer to ransom. the younger wasn't entirely sure how hyunjoo found out but he took it as a warning not to mess with him.

"so, found any good schools yet?"

the younger groaned, his uncle had decided to pull him out of his old school because of an incident involving a student (who had to be brought up to the ICU) and a broken vending machine (don't ask, he was not present at the time and no one would tell him). "i'm absolutely tired from searching."

hyunjoo hummed, he had something in mind, "say, there's a school close to here that i thought is pretty decent. but it's quite pricey..."

"just give me the name, i won't survive on any school my uncle picks."

the older laughed, he was about to say the name when the carresing wind goes harsher and the sky darken, signaling an incoming storm. with his vision, he saw someone walking on the very end of the street. "uh- you know what, i'll message you all the details later. count on me you'll get accepted to that school. and- here"

he hands him an umbrella that he carried. "see you later, minho!"

dumbfounded, the younger eyed the umbrella for a few seconds, before turning to his side "what do you-" minho stopped when he realized hyunjoo was already gone.

"this is a fucking nightmare."

the door creaked open, "uhm...you good?"

mirae looked up from her curled position in pain, droopy eyes meeting her cousin's shaking ones. "what does it look like, genius."

hyunjin watched her aggressively kneading her temple and squirming with slight horror, because she looked like she's about to bash the nearest item into her head. "wellㅡi don't have painkillers at the moment...have you eaten?" he asked even if he already know the answer.

"no, this has nothing to do with lack of food. c'mon it's not the only thing causing headachesㅡ!"

the younger rolled his eyes, "yeah, whatever." there goes the excuse.  "we have mcdonalds downstairs, don't eat too late, or do i have to bring them up...?"

"no, no i'll get them on my own."

sighing, hyunjin went out of the room. it's always the same thing over and over again, the same excuse, persistently independent. he wasn't that close to mirae anymore like they were in childhood, but they're still cousins, see each other often and it was obvious that she's getting worser since that day, when her brother left.

hyunjin wishes it was a dream too.

after the door closes, mirae released the breath that she didn't realize was holding. softly massaging her abdomen, she sat up from the mattress, contemplating to go downstairs yet.
