"goddamnit."

mirae mutters as she scanned the snack shelf at the convenience store. having the usual line of blueberry oreos empty, she huffed indignantly and trudged towards the other section to look for some chocolate.

it was a late saturday afternoon. the teen decided to get out of the house promptly being alone even if her body protested. and now that she's out in the air, mirae really began appreciating walking outside in the afternoon breeze.

after getting her shopping done, she exited the building. the store was located just outside of her neighborhood in a good distance, close enough for her to walk to it but far enough to put her in an exercise where she actually moves.

looking around her, mirae marveled at how the streets outside are quite emptier than usual (not that she regretted it). at this time of the day, residents usually came home from work or maybe even going out for a sunday night. the cafe near the convenience store is always packed with college students dropping to eat. however, as she walked past it, the caramel-colored building was deserted as much as the streets.

she was busy wondering why the area is so sparse that she's not aware where her feet were taking her. mirae clashed to something black and really hard.

she looked up, realizing she'd bumped to a person, a man wearing a dark attire, his eyes were shadowed by the brim of his cap. suddenly, mirae felt really small next to him.

"i-i'm sorry, sir. i wasn't looking." the girl bowed so he couldn't see her embarrassed face, she was sure the plastic bag she held had holes in it right now. the man simply nodded and adjusted his cap, upon straightening her back, she saw a glint of blue iris gleaming behind the shadow.

a blue iris that seemed familiar to her.

the man apparently noticed her gaze and backtracked a step, then he put his hands on the pockets of his coats and floundered off past her as if he didn't run into anything before.

mirae stood frozen for a while, who was he and why did one single eye felt familiar? but she waved those questions away. she got the feeling she didn't want to know. so she continued her walk back home, without once in a while left in wondering about the mysterious man and feeling strange about the air behind, as if someone had followed her.

she arrived in front of her house gates, while mirae's struggling with the lever that's securing the metal doors, she heard soft steps of a shoe hitting the pavement rattling on her eardrums. she turned, but the streets were empty like always, no sign of anyone or anything that could possibly make the sound. a chill went up her spine.

mirae shook her head. if anything, she's probably the one going crazy, she assured herself that everything was fine. assurance that dissipated quickly as it appeared when she was unlocking the door.

"the fuck?" she tossed her grocery bag aside, lying on the first step to the living room was a battered postcard. there were no hole where the card could get in and the doors and windows are all secured, a wave of anxiety washed her, mirae feels her throat clogged.

she examined the postcard closely, though it was hard when her hand was shaking. the card was crumpled as if stuck on a pocket for ages. the front part wasn't a photo, mirae realized. the surface of the sky dotted with clouds were textured of lines streaking back and forth, she smelled a scent similar to the acrylic paints she used, so she guessed it was a painting.

except the painting also reeked with a scent of blood.

mirae bit her lip as she forcefully pushed the information away from her mind, fooling herself it was iron. she was close to freaking out and ran off the country, the girl blamed all the mystery and horror movies she watched for her fright.

she flipped the card, the 'to' was directed at 'Ahn's Residence', but the 'from' was blank. the only writing on the paper except the address are words written in straggled penmanship that has succeeded in making mirae very much freaked out.
