six little miss perfect.
mirae is no stranger to bad days. heck, she just experienced one hell of it the previous day. but this friday had to top the charts along with her ninth birthday.
she had to admit, the morning wasn't much of a problem. sleeping well for the first time after months of no 'proper 8 hour sleep' her mom always nagged her about, she woke up feeling refreshed. the girl went to school with hyunjin together, though she wasn't sure how 'together' applies to their situation.
it was more like going to school at the same time coming from the same way and ten feet apart. one of her family's stupid as fuck rules, they can't be seen together, her father's company can't have any visible relation to hyunjin's mom's company. which is totally and absolutely fucking ridiculous since they're in-laws, but both kids had to adhere to what their parents said, making it seem they barely knew eachother and propped a perfect image.
daughter of the ceo and all that.
once she stepped inside the institute, everything went downhill agonizingly slow. mirae stressed out for 15 minutes searching her physics notebook only to remember she left it at her house. spending first half of the lesson jotting whatever she remembered of the homework to result a passing score, while it was better than almost the rest of the class, mirae felt like throwing her self out.
with all that fuss, she didn't even realize her bestfriend was absent despite of having her as a seatmate. jia informed her through text that she had some thing to arrange about school but mirae didn't thought of it much. as the first break rolls by, she was alone in her class thinking the day couldn't get any worser.
the fates thought, how cute, send in the new student.
────☾
when lee minho entered her class at the first period after break, almost everyone had paid attention to the boy. except for mirae who's still wallowing in her own misery to catch anything on his introduction speech except his name, or even the fact that the professor assigned him to sit on jia's empty chair.
the poor girl barely acknowledged his existence, just nodding at him and saying her name, nor acknowledging why everyone had immediately started whispering at eachother, but she was sure as hell disliking the attention. we're on an important lesson, for fuck's sake.
(mirae said this mostly on behalf of the new student, he looked freaking uncomfortable.)
when the bell rang, girls started to surround minho and mirae wasn't having any of it, so she went out as fast as she can to the cafeteria, almost forgetting the fact that jia isn't with her. she ate her lunch with a frown and it deepened once she saw the new kid approaching her table.
"what?" mirae did not meant to sound rude but she really couldn't care less.
the boy shifted uncomfortably, rubbing his nape. "can i eat here? i don't know anyone around." he pinched his nosebridge "i mean, like, you don't have to but-"
she raised a brow, he took jia's seat and now he's replacing her company? but minho looked near to deleting himself, so she might as well cut him some slack being a newbie. "suit yourself."
"thank you."
the two of them were enveloped in an awkward silence, both saying nothing. mirae felt him glancing at her from time to time and she can't help but stare at him too.
if the girl was being honest, minho was pretty damn ethereal, his soft, delicate features are no match for most guys in the school. something about his twinkling brown eyes and thin peach lips resembled a cat, his skin clearer than gen z's future just outed every girl's skincare routine. really, what goes on in her mind that she didn't noticed him earlier.
and she felt like she should've known his voice somewhere...
"is there something wrong?
mirae snapped back from her daze, she realized she's been staring at minho for god knows how long. feeling her ears burn, she pressed her lips to a thin line and tried to mantain an expressionless face, "nothing."
the other didn't look convinced but his lips tugged to a small smile and caused mirae's brain to have a system failure, fuck what do i do, what the heck why did he smile at me abORT MISSION, her mind panicked.
but mirae likes to think of herself as metamorphic, if there's anything that mirae is proud of, it's her ability to put a facade so flawlessly. unlike what her mother taught her about having a proper image as someone in a 'high' status, she has many layers under that, which promptly make anyone interacting her clueless of her personality. that way it's easier to manipulate people's minds of her.
(though, honestly, she doesn't really know who she actually is and isn't surprised if someone managed to find a gap between.)
face still emotionless, she resumed eating her lunch in quiet. sadly, the peace didn't last for long. even in the crowded area, the footsteps of designer shoes echoes loud enough for anyone within 6 feet radius to hear. the popular clique of girls made their way to mirae's table, and by the latter's bare minimum of showing emotion, minho already got the idea she didn't like them.
"oh, what do we have here, the new boy and little miss perfect. " said a sickly sweet, elongated voice that mirae wanted to throw up hearing, "my god, ahn, already snatching him for yourself?"
her eyebrows knitted, she sat down her spoon. don't elaborate she always says, but this bitch isn't making it easier to compose and not snap. "fuck do you want, jangmi."
jangmi laughed, which is as horrendous as her voice. "already in profanities, i see." she then turned around to face minho, "did you see how rude she is? she's in for your looks boy, bet that if it isn't you, little miss perfect wouldn't have anybody sit in front of her."
minho arched a brow, he didn't like the way this pest adressing him as boy, "and i bet that if it weren't for me either, you wouldn't have to come at her table. so just get lost, yeah?"
everyone watching them went silent, mirae can't help but smile.
