"and i'll kill your friends and family to remind you of my love~!"

jonathan groff's voice blared through mirae's earphones. she swore her hamilton phase ended in seventh grade, but You'll Be Back went on the shuffle so she might as well enjoy listen a mentally unstable king of england singing.

the girl had decided to go back to her house to pick books and clothes for tomorrow since her mom didn't inform her of anything, so she figured they still have business to attend to. hyunjin had gone earlier since the older had unexpected cleaning duty (again, this day sucks ass), and here she is, for once happily skipping on the sidewalk.

mirae still finds the streets oddly quiet, her cousin had informed her that there were many criminals on the loose and the road is not that safe, apparently everyone knew but her, and her folks didn't bother telling since she barely got outside and is living the life as a couch potato. whatever's the case, she hoped that she won't have to deal with the paranoia that happened two days ago ever again.

"your converse high, i really really want you," she now hummed to the tune of converse high. her shuffle machine sure is strange.

while listening to the music, mirae gazed along the peaceful, quiet neighborhood. absolutely no signs of danger, the soft pre-autumn wind gently dances with her strands of hair and the tree leaves, some of the dead ones rustled as she walked over them. afternoon light sometimes shadowed by orange-pink tinted clouds softly layered upon the earth.

needless to say that it was, indeed, calm before the storm.

to not ruin this peaceful moment, mirae tried not to think about professor kim's cousin, or her brother, or any of that matter. she also didn't want to think about that world history project with minho, just the slight thought of him made her insides want to curl and scream.

much to her surprise, mirae noticed a black car parked in front of her house, which meant her parents are home. shaking the bad thoughts away, she entered her abode, "i'm home!"

seonmi glanced from her laptop, she smiled at her daughter. "hello, dear. you did not skip lunch now, did you?"

the younger returned the smile, "yeah, the class was kinda full so i went to the cafeteria. anyways, mom, where have you been?"

edging the laptop close a bit, seonmi sighed, "just some trouble within the company, it's not that serious,"

mirae raised a brow, it was not that convincing but she bought it anyway. "oh, and go change and come down as soon as possible, mirae. i have something to talk to you." her mom added while sipping her coffee.

uh-oh that's definitely not a good sign, something is up and mirae is not sure how she'll face it. nevertheless, she nodded obediently and went to her room. after changing her clothes, she texted hyunjin saying her parents are already home. momentarily, her eyes diverts to a number.

while discussing the project in the class's limited time, they thought it would be better to talk about it in non-active hours of school since the project was loaded. so minho exchanged his number with her, and till now their inbox remained empty. mirae was gonna asked about  materials but she's too awkward to do so.

damn, nothing is what I'm confident in. she thought disappointedly.

she threw her phone to he mattress, mirae quickly changed to her usual clothes before going downstairs. picking a cookie from the jar, she sat in front of her mother who seemed to be engrossed again in her laptop. "so what did you want to talk about, mom?"

seonmi lowered the laptop again, she faced her with an exhausted expression "first off, i'm sorry if we don't have time to spend with you, honey. work has been heavy for us." the older heaved a sigh. mirae didn't mind that, she felt more carefree without her parent's presence.

"i hate to put too much on your table," the daughter raised a brow at this. "but here's the thing, in about three weeks, there's wedding we're invited in. you know mr. lee of koios enterprises? her niece is the bride. a lot of ceos of companies are invited,"

mirae nodded while chewing on her cookie, unsure where this is going.

"well, your father and i have a schedule at that date, and...we would like for you to attend the wedding for us." seonmi finished with a tone of hopelessness.

her daughter nearly choked on cookie crumbs, she looked at her mom with wide eyes, blinking a couple of times as if to be sure what she's hearing. "mom, you know how i am with crowds, especially with people I don't know ──"

seonmi caught her arm, "this is urgent, dear. and after all, you'll take our place soon, it's best to get familiar with these things."

mirae wrinkled her nose in distaste, obviously not a big fan of either idea, attending the wedding or working on the company. she always dreamed of being an illustrator or artist but that dream was thrown out once haneul is out of the picture. "can't you like, make an excuse or something?"

"that's not a choice, besides you're already taking your meds. nothing to worry about." mirae gulped at that statement.

seeing the look on her daughter's face , she let out a sigh "i suppose we can arrange for you to go with sunha and her son-" stopping a little seeing the unconvinced stance on her, seonmi had to use the last tactic. "-and, maybe you can get to the art class."

mirae's eyes lit up. since hearing her school opened an art class, she always begged to her parents to let her join the club every year with no success, they thought it was just a distraction and said to her that her art is already good without a tutoring. in which mirae was grateful about that but she still wanted to join.

"oh," the younger tried to mask her excitement. "well i guess that could work out." she then had a small frown in her face "aren't we supposed to not acknowledge aunt sunha's family?"

her mother waved her hand in dismissal, "it's not to matter about that."

so perhaps the day wasn't really bad, but who knows what comes next?
