---I was glaring so hard at Esther that I thought holes would start to tear through her.
There was plenty at this club to keep me distracted from the little 'friendship' that was blossoming before me. That wasn't stopping me though. I wished deeply that I could turn around and get myself a drink at the bar, but it wasn't like little old Arlington where the bar owners knew who you were and didn't bother to card you.
I stood at the bar anyway while I waited for my Coke. I watched as discreetly as I could over to where Scott and Esther were sitting close on a couch. Scott was leaned over so she could talk into his ear over the loud, bassy music that was pumping through the place. Esther spoke a lot, her drink in hand, Scott nodding in response every now and then when she finished.
Their closeness was what was bothering me. When they laughed Esther would bring her hand to the other side of Scott's face and bring him closer. With any other couple, it'd be adorable, but he was mine. I wanted him to be mine.
"Your Coke?" The bartender spoke up and I snapped out of my trance.
"Oh...sorry..." I paid the guy and walked off before I could make more of a fool of myself. I sipped my drink lightly as I tried to search for Kirstie again. I felt like a little toddler in a room full of adults and I hated that I couldn't drink with everyone. Grace had gotten me a fake ID before she left for New York, but I was too scared to use it. Especially here in Los Angeles where they probably dealt with that stuff all the time.
I caught up with Kirstie, who was dancing by herself. "I love this place!"
"You're literally swaying in a corner by yourself." I said and her face fell. She stopped dancing and stared at me angrily, so I held my hand out. "Let's dance together."
Her face immediately lit up again and we made our way into the middle of the crowd. We danced against each other and she sang loudly with the music.Don't look at him.
I looked. He and Esther were sitting back now and his arm was around her. They were talking back and forth with smiles on their pretty faces. I swallowed back the jealousy and tried to focus on dancing with my best friend.
He's not interested in you.
He cuddled with me all night that night.
He feels guilty for something you did.
I gulped and tried to shake it off. I gulped down my Coke subconsciously as if it would help me feel better. I needed alcohol more than air in that moment.
Scott leaned over and kissed Esther on the cheek.
I stopped dancing and nearly dropped my glass. I took a deep breath but didn't exhale. I couldn't bring myself to. What was the point of breathing now?
"What's wrong?" Kirstie turned to face me. She looked to where I was staring to where they were getting cozy. "Oh..." She put her hand on my chest and then turned around. "Let's just go back to my room, Mitch."
I shook my head out of anger before turning and walking towards the exit of the club. She yelled something to me but I kept walking until I was finally outside. I shoved my hands in my pockets and then leaned myself up against the building.
You idiot. You knew this was coming. He's straight. He likes women.
He never was interested in anyone.
