CHAPTER 2

"I'm glad that you're settling well here in Golden Grain so far" Sir Mario said when he summoned her in his office by the end of her first week in his company. Wala siyang masasabi dito as a mentor. Napakabait nito at organized katulad niya. Madali niya ring nakapalagayan ng loob ang mga kasama niya sa department lalo na ang secretary niya na si Alice.

God, she can't believe that she has a secretary already. Last week lang ay siya ang nasa katayuan nito. Just with a heavier workload. Pero ngayon, lampas benteng katao na ang nagrereport sa kanya!

Because her background was in logistics, inassign siya ni Sir Mario na maghead sa piling transport-related operations.

"I have no doubt that you can stand out, hija. And if you'll do well then it'll be easy to climb up the office ladder. Make me proud, will you?"he looked at her as he was signing the papers in his desk like an automated machine. Sa tagal ba naman nitong ginagawa yun e.

"I will, Sir"she almost stuttered. Nakakaoverwhelm ang kompiyansang pinapakita nito sa kanya!

Huminga siya nang malalim nang makalabas ng office nito. She needed to bring her A-game. Hindi niya pwedeng sayangin ang tiwalang ibinigay nito sa kaniya.

Kakabalik lang niya ng office niya nang biglang tumunog ang phone niya.

"Bakla! One week ka pa lang diyan! Pwede ka pa bumalik dito! Di na namin kaya pagwawala ni Sir, swear!" It was Naya, one of her closest colleague back in MLC. Pabiro pa itong humikbi habang nagrarant sa kaniya.

Nakakadalawang palit na raw agad ng secretary si Byron. Laging mainit ang ulo at nagkukulong sa opisina.

Malamang na pipirmi na talaga ito sa opisina dahil wala nang Nadine na sasalo sa kanya. As expected, he didn't take her decision very well.

Halos magwala ito nang iabot niya ang resignation letter dito. Hindi ito makapaniwala. Sunud-sunod ang tanong nito. Gusto raw ba niya ng generous na raise? Benefits? He even promised to tone down with his social life. Hindi na rin daw siya nito idadawit sa dating life nito. He also opened about negotiating with his father about granting her some shares. 

Funny, because his father already offered that. She talked to Sir Santi first and he already did everything he can to make her stay beside his son. Except offering her a position because the older Mendez's are highly traditional and vital company positions are held by family members only. 

Samantalang tinapat na siya ni Sir Mario nang tumawag pa lang siya rito na he believes in people's skills and attitude regardless of their gender, connections & etc. And that was tantamount to saying that she actually has a chance in holding higher positions in their company.

What tested her resolve the most was that Byron almost kneeled while saying, "I don't think I can function as the head of the company without you. Nadine, you have to understand just how important you are to my life". She almost stayed. Almost.

Malungkot din naman siya dahil bukod sa napamahal siya sa dating kompanya ay kaibigan ang turing niya kay Byron. Almost 10 yrs din silang magpartner. Kahit sabihing nasa professional environment sila, she already know a lot about his personal life. Of things like how he likes to help his father but doesn't really want to fully take the rein. At kahit papaano ay may mga naishare din naman siyang personal dito.
