"Nadine? What happened? You wen't home alone and you weren't answering my calls"Julian asked as he was putting down his bag on the chair, his voice filled with worry.
Nadine's face remained impassive while chopping an apple. She was trying to hard to remain calm but the loud knock of the knife she's holding against the chopping board tells otherwise.
"Hey, what's wrong? Did something happened in your office? Or in the mall? Did I say something wrong?" He sat on a chair, looking problematic as he watched her.
She forced a smile so big she felt her cheek muscles cramp.
"Wala naman. Napagod lang" But Julian clearly saw through her lie this time. She's not sure if it's because they know each other better now, or she's just too obvious.
He sighed heavily. His head was tilted to the side while his hands were clasped above his spread legs. She refused to meet his eyes because she doesn't want to feel guilty about giving him a hard time.
Hindi niya alam pero kumukulo talaga ang dugo niya simula nang makita niya ang picture nito kasama ang ex nya.
"Nadine, please, tell me what's wrong"he reached out to hold her hand. Inalis nito ang apple na hawak niya at saka pinisil iyon.
She stretched her lips into a smile again before deciding to speak.
"Hindi naman kita pinipilit na magstay dito e. You know you're free to walk away if you would rather be somewhere else...or be with someone"she said icily.
Julian frowned.
"What do you mean?" Hinila niya ang kamay mula rito at padarag na tumayo.
"What I mean is you are welcome to walk away if you're planning to get back to your ex!" Tuluyan nang sumabog ang galit niya. Ramdam nya ang mabilis na pagtaas baba ng dibdib dahil sa galit.
Pure shock registered across Julian's face. Huh. Hindi siguro nito akalain na makakarating iyon sa kanya. He quickly recovered and tried to mumble his excuse.
"How—I only—"
"Come on! Let's hear this. Anong excuse mo?!" Oh how she hated shouting at him for a few seconds because the bastard remained soft-spoken. Pero pinili niyang wag magpatinag.
Oh this is like Jason all over again! Her being pregnant, and the father out there seeing another woman! She felt a pain in her chest upon remembering that she bared herself to him including her past, her insecurities. But she chose to ignore it. Wala syang panahon magpadala sa sakit. Never again. Kung ang gusto naman talaga nito ay umalis, hindi niya ito pipigilan. She's much stronger now. Kayang-kaya niya na mag-isa!
