HERO

I was sitting on my usual rock. However, the sight of the waves for the first time made a heavy feeling appear on my chest.

She was leaving.

Actually.

She was actually leaving me.

The day was beautiful, the sun up in the sky. A cool wind was bowing on my face and somebody could misjudge the season and think it was Summer.

The thing though is that it didn't feel at all like Summer.

I put my headphones on feeling the light vibrations on the shape of my ears. It reminded me of her. After she came in my life everything would remind me of her from now on.

I felt a presence sitting next to me on the rock and I immediately knew it was her. I could recognise her figure from miles away.

She tapped my shoulder and I turned my head to her. Her smile was heartwarming. God, I could look at her smiling all day. Every single day of the year. And then again and again until her cheek hurt from smiling so much. And her cheeks rested I'd ask to smile for me again and again and again until they hurt again.

And most of all I'd be the one making her smile.

She pointed at one of my headphones and I gladly gave it to her.

"What kind of song is it?" I asked signing. I never really asked about the songs I was I had. I didn't care. Sometimes, when we were sharing headphones, I'd look at her and try to figure from her expression what kind of song was playing. Sometimes she was cheary so I knew it was a happy song. Some other times she was quiet; never sad. She always seemed quiet to me, but I could easily figure when she was quiet in my way and when she was quiet in hers.

"Coffee breath" she mouthed. Maybe she spoke. I don't even know. I just read her lips and knew.

"Our song" I said. Her smile became wider and she nodded.

Almost every single minute in my day I was wandering what her voice sounded like. Was it squeeky, deep, raspy? And every minute I couldn't figure out I was getting slightly sadder. But she was there and without even knowing she was taking that suddeness away.

We stayed in silence for a little longer until I spoke up.

"So, you're leaving" I stated.

"I am"

"For how long?"

She shook her head.

At that I got desperate.

"Isn't there any way you could stay? Can't your father let you stay until the year ends? It's not very convinient to chance schools in the middle of the school year!"

She shook her head again, her smile flattering this time.

"My father doesn't want anything to do with me" she signed. "And that's good because I don't want anything to do with him either"

"What are you going to do back in Perth?" I asked.

"Avoid my mother, finish the school year and then try to make it on my own"

My heart started aching for her.

"College?" I asked.

She giggle shaking her head. I balled my fists in anger that I couldn't hear that beautiful sound coming from her mouth.

"This is not for me" she signed. He mouth moved and my eyes stuck on it.

"Oh congratulations by the way" she laughed. "For getting into Oxford"
