chapter ii, episode i ☆

"Hi guys! Can I just have a quick chat?" A perky voice called as the gang walked into school. Teagan rolled her eyes as the snooty girl walked towards them. It was too early to be dealing with Jenny Joyce. The brunette stopped in front of the group and beamed enthusiastically at James, "you must be new, I'm Jenny. Great hair, very bold. I'd love to go that short but sure, I don't have to bone structure."

"He's a fella, Jenny." Michelle said with an attitude while James frowned, offended at the fact he had just been mistaken for a girl.

"Oh, I see... Anyhoo,"

"Anyhoo," Michelle mocked, resting her elbow on Clare's shoulder, "seriously, shoot me in the face."

"Only if you promise to shoot me too." Teagan muttered while Clare just nodded along in agreement to both girls' comments.

"This is a bit awkward, but part of my role as prefect is welcoming the first-year students, and it's come to my attention that there was some sort of incident on the bus this morning." Jenny explained, a scolding tone underneath her fake cheerful voice.

"There was no incident." Michelle snapped a little too quickly.

"Apparently, you guys threatened one of the new girls. Said you was going to beat her up." Jenny dramatised, eyes widening.

"That's lies." Michelle barked. Teagan rolled her eyes, the Mallon girl's defensive attitude wasn't helping plead their case.

"There were quite a few witnesses."

"No, I mean we said it but as a joke. As in "we're gonna beat you up" but in a jokey way." Michelle attempted to talk her way out but to no avail.

"Right, well, the thing is, that's not actually funny, is it? Like, at all." Jenny reprimanded the group, her cheerful tone now much more serious and patronising.

"Well, humour is subjective really, so..." Clare added to the debate.

"Yeah, who are you to tell us what we should find funny?" Teagan scowled at the prefect. She couldn't stand being "told off" by people who were her age, or even those only a little bit older. Jenny Joyce was no better than them just because she wore a prefect badge, and she had no right to act like their teacher or parent.

"Now, the wee girl claims that she's not bothered, but reading between the lines..."

"Why are you reading between the lines?" Erin interrupted the the snobby girl.

"I'm just not so sure that I believe her. I don't want to report you guys,"

"Please don't report us, Jenny. Please, we'll do anything!" Clare pleaded pathetically.
