I woke up to my alarm blaring trying to be cool by Phoenix, a favorite of mine. I was racking my brain trying to remember why I set an alarm for today anyway, I don't get up at 6:00 a.m. for fun. I checked the reminder that the alarm on iPhones have: 'first day of senior year.' I groaned and pushed myself up and off the bed and tripped over my own feet to the bathroom to take a shower. I shut the curtain and let the warm water wash the stale feeling that sleep let on you off. After I washed my hair and body for real I shut off the water and climbed out, wiping my feet on the rug and wrapping a towel around myself. While wrapping another towel around my hair, I made my over to the closet, searching for something to wear and deciding on a skater skirt and Panic! at the disco tee to tuck in. I looked at the clock and saw it read 6:43 due to my 30 minute shower that I probably fell asleep in at least 4 times. Jake was supposed to be picking me up at 6:50 so we would have time to go get something to eat before school but he could wait a bit at my house if I wasn't ready by then. I sat down in front of my mirror, staring back at my blotchy skin and cringed. After applying some concealer and powder I rimmed my eyes with black eyeliner making my brown eyes look at bit more interesting than usual. I put on mascara and had just a moment to spare before I heard the doorbell ring. I took the towel off my hair and ran down stairs to open the door for Jake.
"I'm running a bit late as you can tell," I gestured to my hair which was stringy and wet in it wavy black blob, "but give me ten minutes and we should still have time to eat."
I grabbed his hand and led him upstairs, him sitting on my bed as I made my way back to my spot on the floor in front of the mirror which had my blow dryer and straightener plugged up beside it. My hair was mostly dry now so I had to blow dry it for only a moment and since it was mostly straight anyway, all I had to do was run over it a couple of times. I stood up and smiled at Jake as I checked my phone.
"See, I only needed eight minutes." I smirked.
He smirked back at me, letting one of his dimples show.
"What do you suppose we do in those extra minutes?" He wrapped his arms around my waist and tugged me closer to him, bringing his lips to mine. I instinctively pushed my arms onto his chest, as his tongue ran across my lips. I opened my mouth, giving access to the inside of my mouth. Just as I began to run my fingers through Josh's, no, Jake's hair, I mentally scolded myself for ruining the moment, my alarm clock went off signaling that it's 7:00.
I pushed myself away from him and grinned, "Well I guess it's time to go."
Jake rolled his eyes and followed me down the stairs and into his car.
"We are gonna meet Aly, Jackie, Jordan, Abby, and Scott at the coffee shop a couple of blocks over. Okay?" He asked me as I turned up the radio.
"Yeah, sounds good. The group is back together!" I smiled. But truthfully the group wasn't completely together, for me anyway. Josh wasn't here.
"Honestly I can't believe schools already started. We should all go on a senior trip this year. Maybe to New York or Las Vegas." Jake rambled on.
"I don't know... Anyway it'll be weird seeing Scott and Abby again since we haven't talked in so long." I looked out the window murmuring.
"you and Scott were never that close but y'all are chill right? He's my bro." He asked, placing his hand on mine while keeping one on the wheel.
"Well of course we are 'chill'. We just don't talk much." I said laughing at his use of wording.
"Good. I don't want my best guy and favorite girl not agreeing." Jake smiled, "also you need to eat this morning okay? You've gotten so much better."
