"I've read your editorials, Mr. Pulitzer. How can you express so much sympathy for the trolley workers, and yet have none for the newsies?" The Mayor asks.
"The trolley workers are striking for a fair contract. The newsies are striking against me!" Pulitzer says. Katherine standing in his office got stiff.
"I'd spare you this embarrassment if I could, but the burlesque house is private property." The Mayor replies
"You can't order a raid without a legal cause." Seitz states.
"Mister mayor, would the fact that this rally is being organized by an escaped convict and his girlfriend be cause enough to shut it down?" Pulitzer says. Katherine forms a confused look on her face.
"An escaped convict?" The Mayor says astonished.
"A fugitive from one of your own institutions. A convicted thief at large, reeking mischief on the law-abiding community." Pulitzer says and spins his chair around. "Mr. Snyder, which one is it?"
"That one there. Jack Kelly." Snyder states "And his girlfriend Daisy Williams."
"How do you know these two?" The Mayor asks
"His is not a pleasant story. He was first sentenced to my refuge for loitering and vagrancy, but his total disregard for authority has made him a frequent visitor." Snyder explains
"You called him a thief and an escaped convict." The Mayor says.
"After his release, I caught him and the girl myself, red-handed,He was trafficking stolen food and clothing, the girl tried to stop him. He made sure the girl got away first. He was last sentenced to six months, but the willful ruffian escaped." Snyder says
"You'd be doing the city a service removing this criminal from our streets." Pulitzer declares.
"Well if that's the case, we can take him in quietly and then-" The Mayor starts but is cut off my Pulitzer hitting the desk.
"What good would quiet do me?! I want a public example made of him." Pulitzer said angrily. His secretary frantically runs in.
"Mr. Pulitzer, the kids, Jack Kelly and Daisy Williams, are here." she says
"Here?" Pulitzer asks
"Just outside. They've asked to see you." she adds
"Ask, and he shall be received. Mr. Snyder, can you please." He says and walks towards Katherine. "Sit"
She sits and he turns her around in the chair.
"The children" The secretary says.
"Afternoon, fellas." Jack says walking in the door followed by Daisy.
"And which Jack Kelly is this? The charismatic union organizer, or the petty thief and escaped convict?" Pulitzer asks him.
"Which one gives us more in common?" He says. Daisy laughs.
"You have nothing to do with this girl. Take her away" Pulitzer says and The Delanceys walk in to the room.
"It'd be my pleasure." Oscar says.
"Wait no." Daisy says. "We're in this together."
"I only need him sweetheart." Pulitzer says as she is dragged out of the room and tossed onto the street. She looks up in the window to see Katherine, and... Snyder.
