Seiya's POV
"How are you feeling?" I softly ask Latifa.
"I'm sorry for making you worry. I'm sure I'll get better with some rest."
I try to process it positively, to look past the obvious lies, "I see."
"I hear Isuzu-san told you about my curse. I'm sorry for not telling you anything. I told them to keep it a secret since I didn't want you to worry."
"It's alright."
"How are things at the park?"
"Everyone is working hard. But getting attendance up enough to meet our target... It's impossible."
Latifa looked down. She looked down with grace, with calmness, with certainty. She was okay with the fate being handed over to her—content even!
"How!? How can you be so calm!? If the park closes down, you'll..." realizing I was going off, I stop.
"You're right, I probably won't live long. Even so, I won't give up hope."
Without hesitation I reply, "How can you believe in a miracle that might never happen?"
She smiles and looks outside, "It already happened. Just look at everyone in the park. Everyone changed since you took over... even (Y/n), of all people and creatures, has opened up. To me, that's a miracle."
Latifa continues to smile. Even if she doesn't live... she's entirely satisfied with how things are.
I gasp with indifference. I can't see things from her perspective. I can't rationalize it.
Instead, I ask, "Are you okay with this?"
Latifa smiles with even more positive energy than before, "Yes! I'm sure!"
"...Alright..." that's all I can do for now. I can't comprehend her position, and I can't help her either. I've failed her. But... (Y/n)...The door busts open, and Sento comes in panicked.
She tries to catch her breath while talking, "(Y/n)... her majesty... She hasn't come back. I tried calling her, but she won't reply. I... I tried summoning her using the ring she gave me too!"
"(Y/n)..." was all my lips could muster. Why? Why now?
"Isuzu-san, get mine. It's in my jewelry box," Latifa says calmly, completely in a different tone from Sento.
How...? How do I even react? Should I be worried or...?
After retrieving the ring and putting it on, Latifa spoke into it quietly, "(Y/n).
(Y/n)-san. Can you hear me (Y/n)-san?"
Nothing happened. If I didn't know better, I would think Latifa was insane, speaking to a blood-red ring for no reason.
"Your highness, what do we do!?"
Latifa looks at us, "I think... I think we should trust (Y/n)-san. We all know she's stronger than all of us. I believe she'll be okay."
Sento furrowed her brows, "Kanie-kun?"
"I... I don't know... Does this usually happen?"
Both shake their heads.
"We... I... I..."
Would she have any reason to go missing on her own terms? I don't think so, but (Y/n) doesn't have any reason to be in danger either. As much as I feel uncertain, believing in Latifa seems like the logical option considering (Y/n)'s prowess. Maybe even the only option.
"(Y/n) will come back. If she doesn't by tomorrow I'll send search parties.".
.
."Right now, the park needs a surefire way to reach to attract the remaining 134,000 visitors by July 31! We need good ideas!" I slam my hands onto the desk, unable to contain myself.
Opening for 24 hours? On-site service? 0 yen entry? None of them will work! I took a deep breath as everyone left the room.Through my throbbing headache, I whisper, "Where are you (Y/n)?"
I take out my phone for the hundredth time today. Almost habitually, I called her phone, let it ring, and pocket it when I don't get a response.
'Breathe in, breathe out. It's okay Seiya~'
Thanks, (Y/n)'s residual thoughts, but where did you go?While walking back to the office I try to think through scenarios. (Y/n) didn't seem pissed off at anyone. She wasn't sad over anything. She wasn't bored, and there's plenty of work here! Why? Why would she disappear out of her own will without telling anyone? Or...? No! I furrow brows. She's alright. It's not because it wasn't out of her own will. Of course not. That mischievous demon?
Continued reassurance was what I needed. After all, what would I be even able to do? If it's something that threatened her, what help will I be? What help will the police be? Sento? Moffle? We're no match for her already, but someone stronger? No, no way that's ridiculous. When I put my hand on the office doorknob, I hear an object fall down. Sento's going around the park so that means—
"(Y/n)!" I quickly run in, "Where have you—"
Red. A dark red spotted trail led to my desk. My chair was knocked over, wheels still in motion. I can't breathe, but I still am.
"(Y...Y/n)?" I say more quietly, horrified while approaching the desk.
Every step. Every step felt like running marathons. Tick tock. It's almost like I wasn't moving fast enough despite the office being crammed with desks.
It was... "No, no, no, no, no."
The blood pooled near my desk, and I finally got a glimpse of what I feared the most.
(Y/n). (Y/n) was there. Breathing harshly into broken lungs, shakily trying not to collapse.
Three steps. Even though I just needed to take three steps, eternities passed between them.
"(Y/n)!" I finally make contact with her bare skin.
"S... sei," her arms gave out, and I quickly scooped her up from falling into her own blood puddle.
"(Y/n)! (Y/n)! Speak to me! Anything! Don't lose consciousness! (Y/n)!"
Her empty eyes slowly closed, making me die a second time.
"(Y/n)!" I shouted. This time not for her to hear me, but for anyone!
I feared shaking her, since there were already so many cuts I can feel on my fingers alone.
I couldn't tell. I couldn't tell. I couldn't tell if she was still there, "(YYYYYYYY/NNNNNNN)!!!!!!!!!"
Running footsteps from all directions approach in response to the most grueling scream of my life.Covered in thick darkened blood and cuts. Left bare and barely making your way back. Black long horns, sharp nails, and veins being pushed to their limit.
What happened? Why did I let it?
