I was running. The twigs broke under my feet as I pushed on. These monsters won't catch me.
So before I get eaten by a bunch of angry wolves, let me explain what I'm doing.
It's my thirteenth birthday. After I blew out my candles, my parents got upset. We have a bunch of other people living in our house but I never really questioned it.
Now I'm questioning it. They are running after me in wolf form. I guess we are what you might call, werewolves. I never knew we were but my parents think I'm just a reject. That I was a lycanthropy year type kid. That the moon goddess didn't need me.
That's all a lie. I'm a true werewolf. I shifted on my twelfth birthday. I ran away that night, just like I did this year.
So now I just got tackled by a wolf. I it's my brother. He got up off of me and shook his fur. I scooted back to the tree. Seems like I'm always in the woods.
"What?" My voice came out in a raspy whisper. "I know that's you, Erick."
He growled at me.
"Oh, shut up. You think I don't know about you guys being werewolves? Think again. I know all about you guys." The rest of the pack surrounded me. "Like thats Cristie." I pointed at my furry sister. "That's Robin." I pointed to an older lady in the pack. "I'm not some idiot. I can eavesdrop, too, ya know."
Erick growled again. He walked behind a tree an then I could hear his human voice mumbling. He walked out with clothes on.
"How could you possibly know? You are a lycanthropy kid. You were skipped so your don't have the power to listen through our thick doors."
"Well even if I am a lycanthropy kid, I could still hear you groaning yesterday when your girlfriend was in your room with you." His cheeks went beet red.
"Shut up Raina!" He boomed. "You will not embarrass me!"
"Oh, poor little Erick, huh?" I pouted. "Can't handle the truth?"
"Yes, I can. But you won't tell anybody."
"Too late. The whole pack just heard." I laughed and looked around.
"You are such a bitch!" He boomed and slapped me across the face.
"Enough!" My father interrupted our argument and walked through the rest of the circle around us. "So are you a lycanthropy kid, or not?"
"I am." I stated and busted out my chest. "And I'm proud of it."
"But dad, she heard all about werewolves from eavesdropping." Erick chirped in.
"So what? She can know, she just isn't one of us. Put her up for adoption." He started to walk away.
I realized what he said and my eyes bulged. "How could you?! You jerk?!" I yelled at my father. Now realize, this was a 5'6" thirteen year old girl against a 6'2" grown man. The odds were not in my favor.
He looked down at me. "Cristie, get her back to the house with no harm done. She has to be spotless for the child care person." His cold, dead, grey eyes never left mine.
"Spotless." She said. I realized she was I human form too. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to the house.
That was my thirteenth birthday and how all my drama began.
That one lie I told, it's going to have a snowball effect on my life. Let me tell you, I regret that lie.
