Saved Once Again (Nalu)

Chapter 22

Natsu's POV

After Lucy and I found the gem we haven't spoken to each other. We just sat on opposite sides of the cave in silence. Every once in a while we would make eye contact and quickly look away.

Did I do something wrong? Does she not like me? What if this ruins our friendship? A bunch of thoughts kept running through my head.

I really liked her, like really liked her. I've been wanting to tell her for a while, but I never know when the right time is. That's one of the things Igneel didn't teach me-- how to get the girl.

I just thought it was the right moment to make a move since we were alone and all, but I guess I was wrong. I was too scared to say anything, but I was hoping that she would.

"Natsu? Lucy?" I heard Akari's voice from the other side of the rocks.

"Akari is that you?" Lucy asked as she stood up.

"Yeah, you guys okay in there?" She asked.

"Yeah, we're fine." Lucy answered.

"Okay, I'm going to get you out of there." Akari told us, but it's not like we didn't already know that.

As she started moving the rocks I saw more and more light coming through until there was an exit big enough for us to fit through.

We crawled through the hole and as soon as I stood up Happy flew into my arms.

"Natsu! I'm so glad you're okay! I missed you!" Happy cried.

"I missed you too buddy!" I cried back.

"I'm sorry for everything I said." Happy apologized.

"Me too." I told him. I looked over at Lucy and saw that she was laughing at us and I smiled.

"I tired, so let's just go get our money and go home." Lucy said. Everyone nodded in agreement and started on our way out of the forest.

Lucy's POV

After we finally got out of the forest we headed to the guys house to get our reward. We knocked on his door and when he opened it he invited us in.

"Do you have the gem?" He asked and I pulled it out and handed it to him.

"Thank you, I'll be right back with your reward." He told us as he walked off.

"So, how are you going to destroy it?" Wendy asked when he came back.

"Uh, well. About that." He laughed nervously.

"What about it?" Natsu asked.

"Im not destroying it." He stated.

"What?! You said it contains powerful dark magic!" I exclaimed.

"Well, that was a lie." He admitted.

"Then what is it?" I asked.

"This gem is very important to my family. My father lost it when he was hiking and had to use the cave for shelter during a storm." He explained.

"So we had to do all that just to give you back some family heirloom?" I asked.

"Yes, I guess you could say that." He confirmed.

"Just give us our reward." Natsu said.

"Oh, right." He handed us our 50,000 jewel and I walked out with out saying goodbye.

"That was a complete waste of time! He lied to us, and he could have gotten it by himself, no problem! He just a lazy d-"

"Calm down, Lucy. We still got paid so I don't get why you're so upset." Natsu said.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." I agreed.

-Back at the guild-

When we got to the guild I stopped Natsu before he could go inside with everyone else.

"Hey Natsu, can we talk?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure." He said, a bit hesitant.

"I think we should talk about what happened in the cave." I told him.

"I don't know what you're talking about. We just found the gem." He said as he avoided my gaze.

"Seriously Natsu." I said.

"Ok fine. I kissed you and it was a mistake, I should have realized that you didn't have feelings for me and I'm sor-"

"No, Natsu, it's not that I don't like you like that, it's just..." I trailed of and saw a grin appear on Natsu's face.

"You like me?" He asked, still grinning.

"Of course I do Natsu." I smiled back. He sighed in relief.

"Good because I thought that that was going to ruin our friendship and-" I cut him off by crashing my lips into his. He immediately kissed back and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Ehem." We jumped away from each other and saw Happy floating there with a smile on his face. "You looove each other."

"Shut up cat." I said as we both stood there blushing.

"Make me." He shot back.

"Oh, you-"

"Just let him go. Let's get some sleep." Natsu suggested as he grabbed my arm to stop me from attacking the cat only feet in front of me.

"Yeah, okay." I agreed and we started to walk to my house.

"Have fun love birds!" Happy teased, but we just ignored him and kept walking.
