"Mom, we're here." Freddy calls out, opening the front door into the cozy living room of his childhood home. There's a loud crash somewhere down the hall, and then Eva sticks her head around the corner. Her face, hair as well as most of her body is covered with wet paint.

"My boy!" She screams, throwing her paint covered hands into the air. I laugh and step into the house, firmly closing the door behind me. She runs down the hall and clasps Freddy's face in her hands. "Oh." She clucks, "you look so handsome." A kiss is pressed sloppily onto his forehead before she turns to me.

"And you, darling."

"Hello Eva." I smile, stepping into her embrace. She hugs tightly before following suit and pressing a kiss to my forehead as well.

"You're practically glowing." My cheeks heat up and I tuck a stray piece of hair behind my ear. "Am I getting any grand babies sometime in the near future?" She asks, eyeing Freddy from the corner of her eye.

"No mom, we're happy the way we are right now."

"Oh alright." She clicks her tongue and pats my cheek. "But make sure you hold onto this one, she's pretty. You'll make good babies."

"Mother!" Freddy nearly shouts, obviously mortified at his mother's words. But as usual, Eva just laughs and walks back down the hallway. Freddy looks over at me, I'm really sorry she's being crazy, he mouths.

I quickly give him a chaste kiss on his lips, "I don't mind. She's cute." He rolls his eyes before following me down the hallway.

"Very funny. But you're wrong, she's not cute, she's insane."

"She's your mother." I remind him, before stepping into the room Eva disappeared into. She looks so similar to him, they both have the same eyes and smile. But from the pictures I've seen, Freddy got the rest of his features from his dad.

"Unfortunately." Freddy mutters, earning a pointed glance from me. But my eyes don't stay on him for long, they drift to look around the room. Eva has already started painting, and half the room is covered in a dark grey paint. And when I say half, I'm including the roof and floor.

"As you can already see I'm mostly done, so this shouldn't take too long." Eva smiles, turning to look at us. I guess that explains the crash and her paint soaked clothes. Freddy turns to give me an I told you so look before grabbing a brush and heading to the other side of the room.

"I like the colour you chose." I tell her, taking the brush out of her hand and placing it onto the ground. The colour does look nice, just not when it's literally everywhere.

She smiles and puts her hands onto her hips proudly. "I know, it'll look so good when it's finished."

"If it gets finished." Comes Freddy's voice from across the room. My eyes widen and I look over Eva's shoulder and at his smirk.

Eva turns to look at him, "No need to be so rude son. That isn't the way to get a young women to marry you." This time it's Freddy's turn for his eyes to widen. His face turns bright red and he ducks his head to continue painting. My lips tighten and I scratch my ear uncomfortably. Was he seriously that embarrassed at the idea of marrying me. We've been together a little under a year, in fact our one year anniversary is coming up next month. I wouldn't think he'd be that opposed to it.

I blink and tare my eyes from Freddy, only to find Eva studying my expression. "Come dear, lets go make so sandwiches for lunch." I nod and grasp her outstretched hand. "We'll leave the expert to the painting." And with that she pulls me out of the room.
