"This is amazing!" Darrell said, looking at the batch over and over again. "They didn't have to be so nice..."
"Its really wun-" Zerelda was about to say but all the others echoed for her.
"Wunnerful!" Everyone echoed.
Zerelda smiled at them.
"Thanks for finishing my sentence for me," said Zerelda. "Now, Shasha, your parcel... is it the one you were expecting?"
"Yes I guess," Shasha said, looking for a pair of scissors to open the parcel. "Sophia, can you pass me my pencil case? I need my scissors."
Sophia handed her the pencil case. Shasha took out her scissors and started cutting parcel open.
"Whoaaa....." Shasha said, looking inside the box. "She sent me plenty of stuff!"
The others leant in to have a look too.
"Hey what's going on?" Gwendoline asked, only entering the room now. Then she saw the others looking into a large box. "What are all of you doing?"
She stepped in between Darrell and Sally to see what was so interesting in the box. She stared at all the food in awe.
"Whoaaa...." Gwen said in awe. "Are we having another midnight feast?"
"Yes we are," said Alicia. "But you're not invited."
"Alicia..." Sally said annoyed. "That's very nice..."
"Well she isn't nice," said Alicia. "We will be having our midnight feast tonight in the common, without you and that's final!"
"Alicia, no!" Shasha said. "Please. Let Gwendoline come to our feast. She is a part of our class too. She's also one of us."
"That's right, Alicia," said Darrell. "Let Gwen come."
"No I will not come to your pathetic midnight party!" Gwendoline said sharply. "I don't need your pity and that's final!"
With that, she stormed out of the common room.
"Oh great, look what you've done, Alicia," said Darrell. "Now she's gonna split on us!"
"Oh my gosh I never thought of that!" Alicia said. "Now our plan is ruined..."
"Says who?" Betty said suddenly. "We can still carry it out in peace. Shasha, go and put all of your food in a safe place."
"What is your plan?" Sally asked. "What's going on in that wicked brain of yours?"
Betty explained her plan to them. She was planning to act like they were doing the midnight feast tonight, but in reality, it was gonna be done the next day.
"Are you sure about this, Betty?" Mary-Lou asked doubtfully. "What if we get caught? I'm the one who's gonna get into the most trouble as head of the form..."
"Don't worry, it won't," said Shasha. "I'm gonna offer Gwen a deal. Be accused for snitching, causing her to be disliked by not only all of the students, but also by all the mistress too. Or she can choose to attend our midnight feast, enjoy the food, and not breath about it to anyone. How about that?"
"It'll work, I guess," Alicia said with a shrug. "She would choose to eat over being disliked any day!"
"Yeah that's what I think too," said Shasha. "It's up to her."
That night, after supper, Alicia set her alarm for midnight. She put her alarm clock under her pillow and slept.
Gwendoline laid awake that night. She was gonna catch them in the act, with Miss Williams! Yeah! Her plan is perfect. She's gonna watch all of them, the whole fourth form, in the common room, feasting on food without her!
She was gonna wake up a few minutes before midnight and go to Miss Williams bedroom. She would knock on her door, wake her up and bring her to the common room, where she apparently thought there were burglars there, judging by the noise.
Her plan seemed to be foolproof! She would show them! She would show them what happens to people who treats Gwendoline Mary Lacey like rubbish!
At midnight, on the dot, Alicia's alarm clock rang. She woke up gleefully and whispered to everyone.
"Midnight feast! Wake up!" She whispered to each of them, skipping Gwendoline.
They all walked out and hid in the dark left passage. They were waiting for Gwendoline to go out. As soon as she walked out, they would go back into their dormy and pretend to be fast asleep.
As soon as they walked out, Gwendoline hopped out of bed and waited a few minutes, so that she wouldn't encounter the others.
She went out of the dorm, out to the passage, and down the stairs. As soon as she disappeared down the stairs, the girls went back into their dorm and slept.
"She's in for a surprise," Alicia whispered in glee. "Remember, everyone. Don't make a sound. Got it?"
"Yes Alicia..." everyone said.
Meanwhile, Gwendoline happily skipped down the stairs and towards Miss Williams's bedroom.
She passed the common room and it was as dark as pitch.
"Pulled the curtains tightly across the windows, they did," Gwendoline thought to herself. "Those wicked idiots..."
She rapped on the mistress's door. When there was no answer, she knocked again.
Miss Williams woke up and sleepily walked towards the door. She opened the door and saw Gwendoline there.
"What is it, Gwen?"
"Th- There's some one ion the common room," Gwen said, pretending to be scared. "They're making a tremendous noise, keeping me awake at night!"
"How come you are the only one that heard it?" Miss Williams asked, annoyed with Gwen.
"It's because I'm a really light sleeper," Gwen lied. "So I heard it and came to tell you."
Miss Williams knew that this was a lie because last term, there was a fire drill in the middle of the night. All the girls woke up to the bell. All except one. Gwendoline. She was the last to wake up. The girls had to shake her awake.
But Miss Williams decided to check, just in case.
She pulled on her dressing gown and followed Gwen to the common room. Gwen acted like she was afraid and hid behind Miss Williams while she walked towards the common room door.
She opened the door with a quick motion and went in. Darkness.
"Where's the switch?" Gwen asked, searching for the light switch. She was sure that the rest of her classmates were still there and were hiding there with the lights out.
She turned the lights on and saw that the room was empty. Not a sound could be heard, not even the record player.
"Why the sudden bravery, Gwendoline?" Miss Williams asked. "You were hiding behind my back when coming here, and now you're brave enough to turn the lights on and look around?"
"I was sure I heard something, Miss Williams," Gwen said sheepishly. "I must've heard a noise from outside then."
"Maybe," said Miss Williams, sarcastically. "Or maybe your imagination is playing tricks on you?"
Miss Williams escorted Gwen back to her dorm and went back to her own bedroom.
Gwen was dumbfounded when she saw that everyone were back on their beds, fast asleep. They really were fast asleep.
They were planning to lay awake, but their eyes didn't allow them too. They voluntarily shut, causing them to drift off to a deep sleep.
Gwen was confused, shocked and angry, all at the same time. She angrily got into her own bed.
She planned to stay awake and feel miserable with herself, but it didn't happen because the next thing minute, she was snoring!
