Tails looked tense when we didn't see anyone waiting for us on the landing pad. I think he was worried that we had fallen straight into a trap.

He was just about to ask me something when a shot flew past me, scorching several of the feathers on the side of my head.

I spoke one word:

"Run."

We ran.

"Falco! On your left!" Tails yelled. His warning was quickly followed by a thud, indicating to me that I'd successfully knocked down a target.

I was firing as fast as I could, even carrying a weapon in each hand just to make sure I didn't get hit. We were entirely surrounded by guards, and they weren't trying to stun us.

Then Tails did something I never would have expected him to.

He dropped his blaster. Or at least it looked like he dropped his blaster.

"Tails!" I called out to him. "You—"

I was cut short as something grabbed my hands, slowly lifting me off the ground. I looked up to see that it was Tails. I was very confused at that point in time.

"What are—"

My voice was drowned out by a deafening explosion, the sound reminiscent of the rarely-used-but-incredibly-powerful seismic charge. Tails had closed his eyes. Thankfully I'd been looking at him, as I probably would have been blinded by the flash of light below me if I hadn't been.

All the guards fell to the ground, completely unconscious.

Tails set me down. "What was that?" I asked him.

"Simple trick," he told me. "Capped the end of that blaster, put it on repeat fire and taped the trigger down. Attached it to the ground, barrel down. Once enough shots built up inside... boom. I even managed to get it to only travel along the floor, which made it easier to keep you safe."

"How did you get it to be so powerful?"

"Duct tape." He pulled out a small roll of it from a pocket in his jacket. "Industrial-grade duct tape. I never go on a mission without it."

"...huh."

He grabbed another blaster from the ship before we moved any farther.
