Brittney’s POV

I got the call while lying down on my fluffy carpet listening to The Weeknd. I was writing in my journal about how good my new life had been going. When he called back my stomach filled with butterflies. I was so glad I met him. He sounded distraught over the phone and when he asked me to come over. Grabbed some things and was out the door within minutes.

I walked in through his back door with no hesitation.  I glanced around the living room seeing no one so I rushed up the stairs. I had to check a couple doors until I finally found his. I wasn’t familiar with the house because I had only been there once. I looked in the room and he was on the floor. It looked as though he passed out. I was trying to focus on him but the mess in here was ridiculous. I was deeply disturbed and tears started to formulate in my eyes. It was almost like deja-vu. I called his name,

“Dex” I said softly.

No response. I decided to try harder,

“Dex” I shook him lightly.

Please wake up I thought to myself. I was scared nobody was home and I would look suspect. I pushed my two fingers against his neck, feeling around for a pulse. It looked much easier on House. Then I felt it, his steady heartbeat. Now aware that he was alive I became at ease, I examined the room once more. I was trying to figure out what would make him do something like this. I was stumped. I got myself focused again.

“Dex, please wake up, it’s me… Brittney.”

Dude was still out. He must be a hard sleeper or he was really hurt.

“DEX!” I said with frustration

Within a few seconds he was awake. I was happy but it didn’t show on my face. I said the first thing that came to mind which was kind of stupid.

“What did you do?”

He looked around, almost like he was unaware of his surroundings and in a daze.

“Here, come on, sit up”

I grabbed his hand and sat him up. What was he thinking about?

“You want me to call your mom? Or Somebody?"

I examined his body, Bloody knuckles and a welt on his back. He was still staring like a lost puppy.

“Dammit Dex answer me!”

“Sorry, I just have a lot of things going through my head; I’m just trying to process.”

“I’m going to clean your wounds, where is the alcohol?”

“Bathroom”

I walked out of his room, not searching his personal bathroom. I searched the doors again and found it. I opened. It was nice, marble counters, grey shower curtain, quite elegant. What the hell? I thought to myself. There was red lipstick on the mirror. It said f**k you –Mara, in big letters.

“Dex!” I yelled

“Yea Britt” I heard his footsteps coming towards me.

“Who is Mara?”

He immediately pushed open the door, “Seriously”

I give him a funny look

“Fine I need to tell you some things but I am going to clean myself up first”
