Zayn's POV

I was utterly confused about what was happening. I was trying to keep my composure for Constance. I didn't want to make it seem like the whole thing was making me agitated, but I couldn't help but be nervous in front of her.

"It's a waste of time." I heard Liam say.

Mandy just sat there on the bed with her eyes on me. I know that look. She was asking for me to do something about it.

"No, I want to hear what she has to say." I looked at her, and then Liam, and then at Constance. I squeezed her hand lightly and she nodded at me.

I can sense that Liam didn't want me to hear whatever she wants to tell me, but I didn't care. Just because he has her as his girlfriend doesn't mean she can't make her own choices.

"So do you wanna be here while I tell them or do you want to save yourself from the shame?" Mandy told Liam like she owned the place. I've never seen her like this before. It was obvious that she had the upper hand in their relationship.

"Look, before I leave, what I told you earlier before I left was true. I meant it. I really want to put the past behind us." Liam told me while standing up, placing one hand on my shoulder. He kissed Mandy on the forehead and left the room.

Mandy tapped the spot beside her, making Constance sit there. I took the computer seat from the corner of the room and sat on it and moved in front of the girls.

"When I left," Mandy began explaining, "I left with Liam."

"As if we didn't know that already." I blurted out. It was rather rude to say that, but I just can't help it.

"I'm sorry." Mandy said.

"That was what you were going to say? You wanted to apologize?" I said, losing my patience. She didn't have to apologize, she fell out of love and have fallen for another person. What's done is done, you don't have to apologize for being in love.

"No, I wanted to explain to you why I left." She said.

I was beyond confused with what she was saying.

"You know what? Just cut to the chase." I told her.

"The night I went up to your room. It was planned." She said. What was she talking about? The night she said yes to me?

"Liam told me to--"

"Can we please, not talk about Liam this time?" I interrupted. I know she was going to tell me how Liam didn't want her to tell me, but I know she was smart enough to know she has a brain that can decide on its own.

"You don't understand," she said. "It was Liam, it has always been Liam. Remember the night you asked me to be your girlfriend? I didn't say yes because he was already my boyfriend but I didn't tell you because I knew you weren't in good terms with each other. When I went up to your room and told you I was going to be your girlfriend, from then on, everything was fake."

I was trying to process what she was saying to me when she brought her hands up to her face. She was covering her eyes but I know that she already was crying because her tears were leaking from her eyes to the spaces between her fingers.

"Liam asked me to pretend to be your girlfriend so I could divert you from wanting to be captain. It was a stupid plan, but it kinda worked when I told you to just give up on it. You did listen to me and I felt really bad. I couldn't break up with you, and I was afraid of truly falling in love. I told Liam about it and he forced me to break up with you, but when I was about to do it, you surprised me in school and kissed me in front of everyone and I couldn't bring myself to do it. I felt--"
