"Hello world!" I say looking at the sun rising in the horizon from the little window of the hospital.
I was born with a weak heart and I was never allowed to go to play with the other children but I still managed to sneak out. I thought and still think that life is to be enjoyed and not stay on bed. When I was 12 my health deteriorated and I was intern in the hospital and today is my fourth anniversary. The doctors said that I will probably not live more than 15 year but, look, here I am.
"Please Miss Camille don't stand without anyone around!" says the nurse charge of me.
"Don't worry I was just greeting the sun" I say.
"OK, but don't do it again".
"You know I won't listen, right?"
She sight and helps me sit on the wheel chair, and out we go. I start to greet everyone I pass.
"Hello Camille" says Amanda, a granny that was intern in this hospital a month ago because of lung disease.
"Hi!" I respond in a cheerful voice, while she gives me a tooth less smile. How sad, she was left here without anyone visiting her. Because I have been here so much time I know most people here but some time there will be new faces, for example the little child sitting on a bench; he is probably 5 or 6 years old. I ask the nurse, Annie, to push me near the child, since I love to know new people.
"Hi there, what is your name?" I ask with a smile.
"Joy" he answers a little scare.
"Why are you here?" I ask.
"My tummy hurt and mom toke Joy here" he answer a little more confident.
"Really? What did they do to you?” I ask.
"I don't remember, a strange person with white cloth put me a thing in the nose and I went to sleep, this morning I wake up and I was in that room" he says pointing to a door.
"Oh, really? You are brave Joy" I say ruffling his hair.
A woman walks out from a doom, the one Joy pointed, she look worried but it changed to an expression of relief when she sees Joy, she kind of run toward us and then knee down in front of Joy.
"Joy you can't walk out without telling me" she says.
"Sorry mom" Joy says and the mother smiles.
"Today we are going home."
"Really!" Joy says excited.
"But first let pack our things" the mother says pulling Joy by the hand.
"Bye big sis" Joy says giving me a big smile.
"Bye" I respond. Such a good thing that Joy can go home today.
Annie pushes me to the back of the hospital, where there is a mini park. The patience can walk a bit and can have fresh air. This is one of the main reason my parent put me in this hospital.
"I will come back in an hour" Annie says
"OK"
I spend half of the hour watching the birds sing, ants caring food and a caterpillar eating a leaf. A benefit about being 4 years in the hospital is that I learn to admire the nature. Then I feel two hands blocking my view of the caterpillar and then I hear a voice telling me:
"Who am I?" I know immediately who is it, probable not by the voice but the gentle and long fingers of a pianist.
"Joe" I say unable to control a smile. He retreat his hand and then walk in front of me.
Joe is my childhood friend and previous neighbor. When I too sick to go outside he always came to my house and play with me. Before he was a very fat and short but now he is not so fat not skinny and not so tall not so small. He has black hair and grey eyes, and every girl stare at him when he passes by.
"Do you know that you look like forever alone watching a caterpillar?" he says give me a smile reveling all his whites teeth.
“Yeah, but I would look even stranger watching grandpas playing chess right?" I say will laughing.
"Yeah" he says laughing with me.
We pass the next 15 minutes talking about how he will spend his summer and how is my health.
"The doctor told me that probably I -" my heart hurts. Oh no, heart failure. My vision turns to black. Ouch, I think I hit my head with the ground. I can't think right...
