Ezhno's Reflection

As he raced through the forest towards his home, his mind wandered. Was it a wise idea to inform her of the guild? It was a dangerous job, after all, and not one you'd likely find a girl like-

His mind halted for a second.

Her name.

He forgot to ask her name.

God Dammit.

At least he'd be able to ask her once he met up with the brown-haired girl. He still found it strange that a woman of noble-birth would want to join guild of...well, misfits, to be perfectly honest.

'We aren't any better than criminals', he thought to himself with a huff.

As the base of the guild grew closer, he began to wonder how he would bring this up to Zeo. His boss hated him, for reasons unknown. Ezhno didn't know why, nor did he particularly care.

He settled on simply telling Zeo about the girl when he was to give his report on the mission...of course, leaving out the part where he required her aid. The boy was pretty certain he'd get one hell of a scolding for that one.

The guards standing watch by the open gate of the wooden fortress nodded to him, as he passed through. Having spent a large part of his life here, most people here knew him. With a tired sigh, he headed directly to Zeo's office. A small wooden building, really. It was just slightly nicer than the rest.

When he knocked on the door, Zeo's voice answered. "Get in here, boy."

Ezhno hesitated for a moment, before pushing the door open and entering. He stood in front of Zeo's desk, waiting for permission to speak.

Zeo's golden eyes look up at him from the papers he was busy with, before letting out a sigh and setting his quill down.

"You're late by an entire day." The man growled irritably. "What. Happened?"

Ezhno squared his shoulders. "The mission was a trap. It was an ambush. The only thing that was waiting for me at the given location was a swordsman." He frowned as his wounds throbbed at the memory. "He was wearing plate armor, and wielding both a broadsword as well as a shield." Kind of impressive, in hindsight.

"That does not explain why you were late."

He had to restrain a scowl at Zeo's harsh words. "I suffered wounds as a result of the ambush, and was delayed." A small smile appeared on his face. "I also encountered a girl, she asked if she could join the guild as a healer."

At this news, Zeo paused for a moment. "A healer? If you are able to track her down again, bring her here. Her help will certainly be welcome." Zeo grinned. "Inform her that she will be paid very well." With his boss's mood improved, Ezhno turned towards the door.

"You had better not be late next time." was the threat that followed Ezhno out as he left.

Ezhno scowled bitterly, before heading to his home. It was really nothing but a single room shack. It was just big enough to hold a few beds, a table, a chair, a bookshelf, and a small cooking stove. Despite how small the shack was, it suited him well enough.

He didn't need much space anyway.

At least he had a house. Perks of being highly ranked in the guild.

With a tired sigh, he kicked open the door and stripped himself of all his traveling gear. The bag was tossed unceremoniously on the table, and the dagger was set on a bookshelf next to the bed...just in case. He glanced at the stove...Nah. There would be time to eat later. Now was a time for sleeping.

He dropped himself onto the bed, not bothering to get changed, and fell asleep.
