12:38am

My feet hit the sand of the beach, the only light guiding me was provided by the half moon. My brown hair was blown gently in the wind, it caressing my face. I glance toward the sea, seeing the moon's reflection sparkle. I stop at the water's edge, my feet cold, but I ignored it.

It felt nice, the chill. I took in a deep breath, the smell of the saltwater catching in my nostrils. My thoughts seemed to wash away in the water. I was grateful for it. No more parents, no more drama, no more problems. As long as I'm here, I'm free of the worries that clogged my head.

A sudden light shined behind me, making me turn to look and see who was there. I see a boy, around my age, get out of his car. His hair looked black in the dark, but I couldn't tell. He sat on a bench that was placed in the dirt years before. It seemed that he was unaware of my presence.

There's no problem if I try to make a new friend. He looks like he could use one.

I walk over, clearing my throat to make my appearance without startling him. He looks up from where he had placed his head in his hands. We make eye contact; I send him a friendly smile before sitting next to him.

"I'm Yunho, Jeong Yunho."

"Song Mingi."

We sit without speaking, the only sounds coming from the waves that swayed against the sand. It didn't seem like I was bothering him, so I stayed. It was nice just sitting there without speaking. I couldn't see his face, it being too dark. His voice though... when he had said his name, was deep and rough. It should've intimidated me, but it was too comforting and gentle for that.

"Did you know that the angelfish symbolizes bravery? It shows that you're supposed to be courageous enough to face varied situations. The symbolism is supposed to teach you to navigate through the ocean of life without running away from your problems. The fish changes it's direction rapidly. It's fast, too."

I hear a breathy laugh. Looking over, I can see the faint outline of a smile on his face. He doesn't respond, but he lets the smile stick. Moments pass by, my heart warm. I was somewhat comfortable around him. Around a stranger.

"Did you know that there's a constellation called Cetus? It's a sea monster in the shape of a whale. It doesn't actually look like a whale, more like Scotland's Loch Ness monster. Poseidon is said to have created it to show the power of the deep sea. After Cetus died, he was given a place among the stars in the region known as The Sea."

I face him with a surprised expression, a grin soon growing on my face after hearing it. I was happy here with Mingi. Happier than I've been in a very long time.

"What brings you out here, Jeong Yunho?" He questions.

My smile falters a bit before I take in a deep breath, "I needed time on my own to think. Life sucks, you know?"

He nods, "Yeah, I know."

"I came out here for the sea," I gaze into the water, watching the large pool of black ink swish around.

"I came out here for the stars."

My head turns to him while his eyes are staring up at the dark sky. It wasn't black, more of a really deep blue with faded clouds mixed in.

"I'm really glad you decided to talk to me," he starts, "this night could've gone worse, but you showed up. You... you've made me happy tonight. Really happy. I should actually get going, but... can we meet up again tomorrow? Same place, same time?"

Delight spreads through my fingers as I nod, "I'd love that. Can I get your number?"

He pulls out his phone. I peek at it, seeing multiple messages still coming in.

Don't be nosy, Yunho.

Handing the device to me, I type in my number. I would've taken a photo, but it was too dark outside.

"I'll message you when I get home. Do you think... do you think I could get a hug?"

Hearing that made me stand immediately. My arms went around his neck, and I felt his snake around my waist. It was nice. It was needed.

"Thank you for tonight, stranger," he whispers.
